I have a letter tray sitting on my desk that has a pull out drawer underneath it. I keep my pens in that drawer which I've lined with make-shift pen trays. I have limited my accumulation to twelve pens, so that works well for me.

I fold a piece of paper into a zig-zag shape and then stick it to a flat piece of paper to get some sort of "washing board" pattern. I stick that to the bottom of my drawer with blue tac and put my pens in the valleys of the board. Works fine and takes up less space than pen trays. Of course so experimenting has to be done so the valleys are wide and deep enough for the pens to sit still and not bump into adjacent pens.

Mine live in their boxes, too, if they came in them. The cheaper, non-boxed pens live in cheap pen pouches in my pen drawer. Vintage pens which didn't come with boxes share boxes with the modern boxed pens (Pelikan boxes are especially good for this). I want a proper pen case, but have yet to see one that I really like.

Buying a proper pen storage case sorta commits you to filling all the slots. That could get expensive...

My pens live here:

It's a 24-slot Visconti pen-chest. Top tier (1st photo) holds 12, bottom tier (second photo) holds 12. The first tier is covered by a windowed lid, the bottom tier is a drawer (which I slid out and put on top of the other tier, when I was taking photos).

Hi shangas, what are those 2 sheaffers on the extreme right(the yellow and orange) called? I picked up the yellow one from a store recently but have no clue what it is.

Hi Taurean.

Yes they are kinda cute, aren't they? It's actually yellow and fire-engine red (I believe they also come in blue and green). They're called Sheaffer School Pens. I'm not entirely sure if they're still produced by Sheaffer. I bought those two (along with the accompanying boxes) at the 2008 Melbourne Pen Show. I had an identical set of them when I was a child of 10, but I lost them (as a child of ten will do, when they're at school).

I noticed them at the pen show and I HAD TO HAVE THEM. A link back to my childhood and the instrument which made me lose my fountain pen virginity at such a tender and innocent age.

They take standard Sheaffer cartridges. They're good, solid, dependable pens (They had to be, they were designed to be used by kids) and they write wonderfully. However, keep in mind that these pens are susceptable to nib-creep. In the 13 years since I last used them, nothing has changed! They still have nib-creep!!

Ah Sheaffer school pen is it? A fitting name I must say, they have a decidedly innocent and student feel to them. I understand the sentimental value they hold for you, I am still looking for my own first pens that I lost years ago.

I'd never heard of it, stumbled across one in a store where I had gone looking for walitys and camlins and other home-grown brands (I live in India).

It writes really well, a little nib creep would be acceptable considering they are so darn inexpensive.

Do you think these can be used as ED fillers? (guess that won't help the nib creep)

Hi,

Yes they can be used as ED pens. I've never actually tried it, but I know some members here who have (I can't remember any names at the moment, though). The pens require a bit of prep first (some sealant of some kind, I believe, to prevent leaks), but otherwise, they make fine ED pens.
