Hey everyone, I was going through my grandfather's draw and came across this pen, I am facinated by it, hoping to find out some history and value of it.

On the pen it read waterman's ideal fountain pen- Patd 1884 May 23 1899- PEN NY USA and AUg. 4. 1908 (or 3) i do not know.

the clip reads clip-clap ideal patd sept 26 .05

it came in a blue case which is damged and directions that are readable

Check the end of the pen and see if there is a number on the very end. It will be either "5x" (x could be 2-8) or "1x PSF".

Also, check the clip again - the clip should have a patent date of Sept 26, 05 and another date in '10. If the clip does not have the '10 date on it, then the clip is not original to the pen, but I suspect it does have the '10 date.

If it is a "1x PSF" then it is Waterman's first lever-filling pen and dates to roughly 1915-1917. If it is a "5x" then it probably dates somewhere from 1918-1925 or so (I am very unsure of the end date).

So if you have a lot of ink,

You should get a Yink, I think.

on the tip i read 12 PSP it is written in red. The clip reads PAT Sept 26. 05, than there is a circle with the word ideal in it. around the circle reads 18 filled, and the words clip cap. On the pen itself between the gold trim it reads patd 1884- may 23 1899-waterman's ideal fountain pen- than pen. ny. usa - than aug. 4 1908 (or 3) i cannot really tell. Should I try to restore it? or keep it as it is? around what value is this pen worth?

Thanks John for the help
