The ones I have don't leak but the clips are near useless and they do not hold very much ink.

They might leak if they're not restored properly. That being said they serve their intended purpose well if you only need one as a pen for your pocket book. That's what they're designed for--a good pen to stash away in a purse...

The tiny little one on some of mine. I'll try to get a picture tomorrow and post it.

Let me correct myself-- apparently there were clipless models.

Dave

Yup, mit and mitout clips. Not that the clips did much.

I have one, pretty but not restored. Not sure I would ever use it.

Don't do it for my sake. That was my way of saying that the early ones don't have clips.

I thought the clip was called a clasp in Tuckies, so one could say none of them have clips. :P

I'm not sure it was even a Clasp, more like a friendly nod.

I like Tuckaways- a lot. I admit to collecting them more than using them, but a propertly restored vac-fill Tuckaway holds quite a bit of ink.

Here is a quick pic of most of my Tuckaways, followed by a pic of a few clipless ones.

Don't feel bad. I'm old; I'm meh about most things.

Nice collection Greg! Although I have always focused on the longer Balance pens, the chrome/gold capped with striated green barrel tuckaways are pretty darn sharp.

Your group really shows off the range. Great pen for the purpose - fitting in a shirt pocket (such as a military shirt) without the clip showing. Thanks for sharing!

I am so insanely jealous of that collection. I really like the tuckaway design, and just got my first one for christmas. It's not restored, so I'm not sure if I want to try it myself (it'd be my first touchdown repair) or wait and get a cheaper less pretty touchdown filler pen first and try with that.

As for the clip, I never use them. I sew my own pen wraps to bring my pens to school in and make them so they custom fit which pens I want to bring and keep them safely inside. I actually accidentally broke the clip off my last pen (a pelikano- so not really a disaster) and have still used it for years. Actually, based off that experience, it's probably better for me to have pens with little clips like these.

Currently using: pelikan 320 + sheaffer balance

I doubt that you will find many touchdown Tuckaways. Most were vac-fil. That's not a repair I'd suggest anyone start with.

No, that would be terrifying. But mine is a touchdown fill, luckily. Although I suppose it will hold less ink.
