And here's the Parker patent for what they called "modular fountain pens", patent no. 3,087,464. It encompasses such modular pens as the Parker "45", "65", "75", "VP", and "180", and went on to influence such pens as the "Vector", "Centennial Duofold", and "Sonnet".

 

This one's for all the collectors and users of all those relatively recent Parker pens.

One would never think parts interchangability could be patented. At least, not after 160 or more years of it being common industry practice and 'prior art'. Of course, when the patent was filed there had been only over a century of that being common practice in other industries.
