Pay it Forward 2009

Excellent idea. A few years ago I was lamenting that I had not tried a Duofold and was not in a position to buy one - and a kind soul sent me a vintage striped Duofold to try out. It is time to pay that kindness forward so I offer up the same:

Parker Striped Duofold. Triple cap band and double jewels. Green/gold stripes with decent clarity and a nice monotone gold nib that is a generous fine or slightly narrow medium to my eye. It is a smooth writer and the vac speedline filler works just fine last time I inked it, but I can offer no guarantees as to longevity. That is the good stuff (and the most important really). However, the pen is no prizewinner cosmetically as it has a rather large multi line inscription. Some of the trim has brassing and there is a mark on the cap where it looks like the celluloid met a hot object, and numerous light signs of use. I didn't think it was nearly as bad as described to me when it was given to me, but I don't want to fool anyone into thinking this is one of Dr. Isaacson's mint stickered (or just near mint) samples!

So ... I would like to offer this pen up to someone who is using a Vista/Safari or the like and who is also either a new graduate in a lousy economy, a current student, or a pen newbie. I'll cover shipping in the CONUS so let's limit it to that for the time being. Send me a PM saying you're interested (and a brief bit about why you'd like it) and I'll randomly pick from those who send a PM before 12pm this evening.

I think that about covers it - Cheers and bon chance!

It is a very nice thing to do. I am a student and a pen noob and thought about PMing you for a chance at the pen, but I get by well enough that I thought it best to give someone else a chance at it. More and more I am pleasantly surprised at the attitude on these forums. They are either very well-moderated or frequented by a good crowd.

Gone to kookychick. Congratulations!

I have 5 small wax sealed bottles of ink that came with a glass dip pen I purchased. I don't know if they are fountain pen friendly, but should definitely be able to be used with a dip pen.

I was gifted with this same set a couple of years ago. I've only ever opened up the green (Vert) vial. The ink looks to be pretty clear, but I have never dared to use it in a fountain pen. So congrats to kookychick but also a caution to her to be careful of this stuff. Those bottles also only contain a couple of mL of ink each, so one should resist falling in love with the inks.

On a sacred quest for the perfect blue ink mixture!

Thank you to all who sent PM's regarding the Duofold - as promised I'll do a random drawing and notify the recipient via PM later today!

I want to thank everyone who replied - it makes me wish I had more than one pen as there are some deserving folks out there and I really appreciate the effort many put in to their replies. However, I only have one pen and as promised - I assigned numbers to the replies and used a random number generator to pick the recipient - so congratulations to tubbypreach!

I hope you enjoy using the pen!

Only 4 entrants so far in my draw. PM or e'mail at darriz at mail.com NOT HOTMAIL

The voice of this guitar of mine, at the awakening of the morning, wants to sing its joy;

I sing to your volcanoes, to your meadows and flowers, that are like mementos of the greatest of my loves;

If I am to die away from you, may they say I am sleeping, and bring me back home.

Thank you for the ink, penspouse! These bottles are so cute! :wub:

Thanks for the warning, Ink Stained Wretch! I will try not to become too enamored of them, and I plan to use them with dip pens. :)

Original Crown Mill tablet with about 45 sheets left. I have matching envelopes, but they don't match. The envelope is more green and the letter sheets are more purple. If you already have some of this, the dye lots (?) might match something you already have.

pm me if interested.

Full bottle of Parker Quink (black) for a Sydneysider

I don't care if you're a poor student or a filthy-rich mogul (rich people need kindness, too!). Only catch is you have to pick it up from my wife's shop in Sydney (Australia) CBD.

If no one claims it in the next week, I'll open it up to all and post it.

Diamine Ink cartridges (short internationals). ALL CLAIMED

I bought a couple of those Diamine 'selection packs' as a proxy for a Pear Tree ink sampler. I'm slowly working my way through them but I thought it would be nice to pass some on to others (can you spot which I don't like using the list below)?

No restrictions - I will cover postage unless you require Fedex!

I have four lots of four cartridges.

Pack 1 - Dark Brown, WES Imperial blue, Prussian Blue, Umber.

Pack 2 - Dark Brown, WES Imperial Blue, Prussian Blue, Imperial Purple

Pack 3 - Dark Brown, WES Imperial Blue, Prussian Blue, Blue Black

Pack 4 - Dark Brown, Royal Blue, Emerald, Blue Black.

Okay - this could get complicated but PM and post with your pack preferences in descending order.

I will then give you your first choice unless that is gone and then your second choice unless that is gone, and so on.

First PM and post for each gets it.

Now my head hurts. :blink:

For someone who wants to try their hand at restoration:

I have a Waterman's blue pearlized marble celluloid (I think it's a Dauntless) Canadian lever filler with a nice, semi-flex no. 2 nib (14K Canada). The caveat is that it will need a new lever mechanism. The j-bar is rusted. I have removed the old sac and all the ossified sac pieces. This could be a nice little pen. I'll pay US postage.
