Staples Mini Composition Book

Recommended Posts

I had been casually looking for a small FP-friendly notebook for jotting down quick thoughts and ideas, when I spied these mini composition books at one of my local Staples a few weeks back. I debated for a little while, but they were only $0.99 for a two-pack, so I thought they were worth a try.

As it turns out, these diminutive comp books are quite fountain pen friendly. I had no problems with any of the pen/ink combos I tried, no feathering or bleedthrough. The writing surface was smooth. Even Private Reserve Lake Placid Blue, which is quite wet and feathers on poor quality paper did well on this paper. The only downside is that the paper is thin and there may be some showthrough. Still, it should be possible to use both sides.

The book will also lay flat and the ruling is aligned across the binding, so it would be possible to write across two pages if you choose to.

• Staples Item 658961

• $0.99 per two-pack

• 80 sheets (160 pages)

• 4.5” x 3.25” (11.4 cm x 8.2 cm)

• College ruled (15 lines per page)

Do they say "Made in Indonesia" on the back? I bought some very similar notebooks at "Dollar General" recently. Inspira brand, Indonesian paper, 3 for a buck.
