Pens in the Wild

The Write Pen

Recommended Posts

There are still pens in the wild! My friend Perry told me about a shop that had some pens (he bought some) and I drove 100 miles today to check it out. I have always found a few pens in the wild. From $ 50.00 Arnolds to a OS Black and Pearl Balance set in perfect color for $ 45.00. So, I made the trip today and found a Parker 51 signet set is really super shape. To my great joy I bought a Parker 51 in Nassau Green, the cap isn't perfect, but I find no flaws whatsoever in the pen. I plan to restore the green and check out the signet and offer them for sale in the next few days. If anyone is interested in a picture and/or to make an offer send me an e-mail at danny@thewritepen.net. The "early bird may get the worm" so to speak. I'll post pics after I get them cleaned up and ready to go. Black Friday for me was all light and joy.

Regards,

danny

Funny, I did the same today while visiting relatives in Erie, Pa. and had a very dissimilar experience-- one shop had none, one had an open-nibbed Waterman Crusader with well-worn cap for $85, and the third had an Eagle (albeit with a 14K nib) for $75. Yikes!

Still having fun with the Parker Super 21 set I found locally (upstate NY) for $18, an Esterbrook J (still with a good sac!) and 9556 nib for $10, and a perfect Parker 61 Jet Flighter set in the box for $12.50. Happy hunting!

Both of your finds sound great, Danny. Congrats!

Well, I just finished checking and polishing the Signet and it is super nice. The pen is perfect, no brassing or dents or dings, no engravings on the cartouche. The pencil is slightly less perfect with a very small dent in the barrel and a bit of brassing on the cone. Both operate as designed.

The Nassau is as expected, now restored and it super. 1945 first quarter. The cap is gold plated with the chevron (or whatever it's called)at the base, no dings or dents, the cartouche is engraved VAN and on top of this the BD clip is solid 14k gold. Pictures tomorrow if I can get them to load. I'm a preacher and pen repair guy, not a computer man.

Pretty good day and off to bed!

Regards,

danny

What size is the nib for the golf filled pen set?

It is in my pocket at themoment, good timing for the question. It is a fine with a wet, but not flooding nib, just right. But swapping nibs is easy to do if you prefer another standard size.

Off to church, ttfn.

I swear, between you and Cory there are no good deals left in the wild in this state.

I swear if I didn't like Danny so much I'd have to kill him....I go to every flea market and antique store in Arkansas that I can find - got nothing. HE GOES OUT ON ONE DAY AND FINDS A DAMN NASSAU GREEN 51 THAT I WOULD FREAKING KILL FOR!!!

Life just isn't fair sometimes..... :crybaby:
