My B-nibbed 78G is kinda so-so. It's not smooth enough that I'd want to use it for everyday writing, and I like stubs. Given others' praise for the B nib, I think maybe I got a bad example.

Great idea removing the cheap gold bands. I don't mind the clip band so much, it has a functional purpose. The pen looks 1000x better without those printed on bands IMHO. Now all I have to do is get some micromesh.

Great review. I have a black one with a fine nib that I have used so much that I wore off the two "gold" rings. It has been a great pen for me. Nib is very smooth and has good ink flow. Great pen.

I concur. I have several 78Gs in all nib sizes. The fine nib can feel scratchy but I put it down to the sheer sharpness of the nib. The medium is perfectly smooth with a line close to Western fine. My broad is more towards a smooth cursive italic nib rather than a stub. Lovely line variation...the lines look more defined to me than the ones made by my Stipula 0.9mm stub and Sailor music nib.

Heck, I think I'll go buy the rest of the colours in medium and broad nibs just for fun!

I agree with the previous comment regarding the medium nib. Mine is smooth, a bit on the dry side but perfectly capable. I like the tiny bit of softness in the nib which facilitates my writing action and my writing's appearance. Regarding cartridges, Will, I bought mine a while ago--I guess before they've become so widely available (and cheap!) and it has no converter. I was told that Waterman carts work and they do.

Ditto for my M nib 78G. It can be a bit difficult when low on ink, but I have found that Noodler's inks seem to work quite well, though a bit of nib creep.
