The Haolilai 801F

I received my 801F today (took a little longer than I expected since DHL delivered it to the wrong address... )...I had high expectations for this pen...and...

 

It really is an amazing buy! The pen could easily masquarade as a $200 or $300 pen. Even the convertor and threads inside are gold plated.

 

Writes very smooth...similar line to a "fine" Waterman Phileas but softer due to the 14k nib. It's definitely a medium nib. The pen looks much better (as far as attention to detail) up close than the Waterman, yet does not cost much more.

 

Incredible box too. Very happy. If you don't have one, don't admit it: run, don't walk, to a dealer and order one.

I've asked to be put on the waiting list for this pen. I've been looking for an orange pen - for my favorite ink, of course - Private Reserve's Orange Crush. I've been interested in the Romet Asia in tangerine, but since this Haolilai is getting rave reviews, I think I'll try one.

 

By the way, will somebody out there tell me how to pronounce "Haolilai"?

PLease let us know about the pen, especially the nib and the balance. I just got my Grifos Stingray on Sterling Silver with a 18k white gold nib. Real nice. The skin is rough, you can feel the scales with your fingernails. The nib though a modern nib writes like an old style nib - of course not flexible but not a nail either. The best thing about the nib is that when you write the words appear lighter on the top and darker at the bottom , so there is some color shades. Nice handmade pen.

My Haolilai 801F arrived this morning. Fed Ex was supposed to deliver it yesterday and I watched the driveway all day - didn't get a darn thing done. My husband said I was acting like a 6 year old on Christmas morning. By 8 p.m. last night I gave up on Santa Claus and figured I wouldn't get my pen until Monday. But it was on my doorstep this morning!

 

I've inked it with my new Private Reserve Shoreline Gold - very appropriate for this golden pen, I thought. THE PEN IS GREAT! Now I think I know what all the talk is about flexible nibs. I guess this is the first really flexy nib I've written with.

 

I'll have more to say about it when I've used it more, but so far I'm very pleased. I'm not sure I like the Shoreline Gold though - it's a little pale.

Just go mine today. Very nice! Even my 11 yr old son thought it was fab!!! Also, it writes like a dream. Hopefully Todd will get some more in. Now, if I can just decide what color ink to go with that gorgeous pen....

I might mention since I am sold out of this model I have the Haolilai #808 with 14K gold nib on my Specials page for only $35.00. That's a lot of pen for an awesome price.
