Speedy, I'd reckon your first lot is sold-out ;)

If everything goes well, we may have found a potential supplier for a future FPN LE pen...

Who better to supply an FPN pen than an FPN member?

Yuki

Hahaha! anything I can help, I'll be glad to do it.

A direct sale here on FPN would be even better...!

Hi I am a fountain pen user, also a pen maker.

I am developing an inexpensive piston ink feeding system FP. This project is actually a discussion result with Taiwan and China fountain pen users, kind of build by users wish list. This is a very interesting project, many ideas are from the web friends, even the red logo mark you are seeing is from these friends.

I have a forum showing the progress of this project, unfortunately it is only in Chinese, but it does have some photos that everybody can understand, hahaha!

In some of those pictures you will see the piston system made by brass then aluminum (weight different reason). But the real basic version these piston parts will be made by plastic, for both cost and weight reason. The aluminum version will be used in higher grade version in the future.

The tooling for plastic parts are in process; this project has been running for about three or four months. All the toolings are scheduled for test end of this month, Oct., expect the plastic packaging box. Early next month we will perform the fountioning test, then debug... Let's cross the finges, if everthing thing goes smooth, it should be ready to go on market within three months.

By the way, the target retail price for this pen is US$35-40/pen. When available, I will sell it on ebay first.

Just wanted to see the picture again.

And maybe ask the same thing everyone else here is asking. Can I have one? I'll pay for it. But, only if you and your design team sign it personally.

Yeah that's it, could I get one hand signed by you and your design team? And maybe one that I could use also? Will there be one with a 14k nib that I can turn into a XXXF Full flex? If so I want one of those as well.

Christmas is coming up, will our pens be ready by then?

Hi Flourish,

for sure you will be able to buy it. I will put it in ebay...

I am so flattered that you want our team to sign it, hahaha!

the 14K nib and other nib size will be future steps; after the pen is well accepted by all of you. if people don't like it, then to prepare all the options the cost will be too high for us.

I am sorry that we won't be able to catch up the Christmas time, because further fine tune on parts and tooling and writing performance test is needed.

Writing performance test you say.

I do believe that there are a few of us on the FPN that would be more than willing to help you perform such tests. I for one, as an example have been known to write sixteen pages a day. I also have been know to draw many pictures on a daily basis.

And of course I want your team to sign my new TWSBI pen(s). You have put a lot of work into your pens and best of all you have shared it with us. You're family now. And as family we here on the FPN will continue to ask many questions and request more photos of your pen's progress. We want to adopt your pens and not just own them. And when one adopts they get to sign papers with lots of names (yours) and dates (the date the pen was born on) and of course the rules of care and use (the manual).

Maybe if we bug you enough you will even make a special FPN Edition just for us?

As a new member of the family, I will sign the pen (in the paper?) for the family member. But you need to prepare the content of the paper for me, since my English is not good enough to write it, hahaha!

I can prepare a special version for FPN (like special laser engraving on the cap big metal ring (in the middle of the pen)). But if we want to do this, we need to do it at one time, when we collect enough people (number) to make this engraving at one time.

How many is "enough people"? It would be useful to have an indication.

Any chance of it being ready for Chinese New Year? I think a demonstrator filled with red ink would be a great way to celebrate.

If you would like I can prepare the manual for you, even though your English is good. I've always been pretty good at writing instructions, manuals, how to books and the like. I actually went to school for it. You would have to write the Chinese instructions though as I'm afraid that I don't know any of the dialects and I don't know if one of the internet translation sites would be able to do a good enough job. Your TWSBI website already shows that you've got a good photographer and your design illustrations are very good so you can do a better job of it to get the exact look that you want. You would just need to send me a pen, no kidding this time, and a list of everything that you would like covered and I could have a couple of proofs done up for you in no time at all.

You could just sign the paper if you like. But, if we can talk you into doing an FPN TWSBI edition maybe you should engrave you name on the pen somewhere.

Since you're family now, what time is dinner? And, what are we having?

I made a DV to show how to assemble and disassemble the Diamond fountain pen. I use the firt sample I have on hand, it is not a perfect one yet. On the film the final position of the piston after assembly is not correct. don't worry about it.

What kind of tests have you run on the section? I'd be concerned that a screw on section might lead to leaks at the section. Great looking pen. I'd definitely consider buying it. :)

ETA: well if there is a non-demonstrator version. ;)

@bhavini If I were you I would not buy a dip-pen. They don't replicate the flow characteristics of fountain pens, and they will work well with some inks that will clog fountain pens. Instead of a dip-pen, I would buy a relatively-inexpensive pen that is easy to clean. E.g. a Parker Frontier and a converter for it. Its nib/feed-unit can be unscrewed from the pen, so cleaning it is very very easy.
    • finzi 18 Apr 21:44
@bhavini I ordered a Sailor Hocoro today, to use for testing. I’ll let you know what it’s like. You can get different nib sizes for it, so maybe more versatile than a glass dip pen.

@bhavini, I really like the Sailor Hocoro dip pen. It’s inexpensive, easy to clean, and if you get one with a nib that has a feed, you can get quite a few lines of writing before you have to dip again. I have a fude nib, which I use for swatching and line variation while writing.

What's a relatively cheap tool for a newbie to use to try out new inks, without inking up a pen? I've a bunch of ink samples on their way but I just want to play around with them before I decide on which ones I want to buy more of for writing. I've never used anything except a fountain pen to write with ink before.

It's gonna end where 1929 left us: a world war, shambles, and 'growth by rebuilding'. That's the conservative view of cycling history --and the big plan. Even if our generations perish.
    • lamarax 11 Apr 0:49
Of course trade wars are much, more important than the prices of consumer products. The true intention is to weaken the dollar, so that the Chinese start selling their US held debt. But the dollar being the defacto world reserve currency, it doesn't lose value that easily. So the idea is to target trade through artificially raising prices. Problem is, inflation will skyrocket. Good luck with that.

In Europe, the only (truly) American produced brand is Esterbrook AFAIK. Tariffs will make Esterbrook products compete on the same level as some high-end European brands (let's say Aurora), while clearly the product is manufactured to compete on a much lower price level.
    • lamarax 11 Apr 0:24
So let's say you want to buy a Montblanc or whatever. You pay the current tariff on top of the usual price, unless your local distributor is willing to absorb (some) of the difference
    • lamarax 11 Apr 0:20
Tariffs are paid by the importer, not the exporter.
    • TheQuillDeal 10 Apr 2:44

Fine-have you had a nibmeister look at it?
    • carlos.q 29 Oct 15:19
@FineFinerFinest: have you seen this thread? https://www.fountainpennetwor...nging-pelikan-nibs/#comments

No replies required to my complaints about the Pelikan. A friend came to the rescue with some very magnification equipment - with the images thrown to a latge high res screen. Technology is a wonderful thing. Thanks to Mercian for the reply. I had been using the same paper & ink for sometime when the "singing" started. I have a theory but no proof that nibs get damaged when capping the pen. 👍
    • Mercian 22 Oct 22:28
@FineFinerFinest: sometimes nib-'singing' can be lessened - or even cured - by changing the ink that one is putting through the pen, or the paper that one is using. N.b. *sometimes*. Good luck

I'm not expecting any replies to my question about the singing Pelikan nib. It seems, from reading the background, that I am not alone. It's a nice pen. It's such a pity Pelikan can't make decent nibs. I have occasionally met users who tell me how wonderful their Pelikan nib is. I've spent enough money to know that not everyone has this experience. I've worked on nibs occasionally over forty years with great success. This one has me beaten. I won't be buying any more Pelikan pens. 👎

I've had a Pelikan M805 for a couple of years now and cannot get the nib to write without singing. I've worked on dozens of nibs with great success. Ny suggestion about what's going wrong? 😑

Hello all - New here. My Art studies have spilled me into the ft pen world where I am happily submerged and floating! I'm looking to repair some cheap pens that are starving for ink yet filled, and eventually get new nibs; and development of repair skills (an even longer learning curve than my art studies - lol). Every hobby needs a hobby, eh ...

Perhaps it's like saying Beetlejuice 3 times to get that person to appear, though with @Sailor Kenshin you only have to say it twice?

@Seney724. The pen was recently disassembled and cleaned, but the nib and feed were not properly inserted into the holder. I'm in Maryland.
    • Diablo 26 Aug 21:32
@Seney724. The nib section needs to be adjusted properly.

Hello! Is there a thread anywhere 'round here where one can post self-composed poetry? If not, would it be alright if I made one? I searched on google, but to no avail...
    • OldFatDog 26 July 19:41
I have several Parker Roller Ball & Fiber Tip refills in the original packaging. Where and how do I sell them? The couple that I've opened the ink still flowed when put to paper. Also if a pen would take the foller ball refill then it should take the fiber tip as well? Anyway it's been awhile and I'm want to take my message collection beyond the few pieces that I have... Meaning I don't have a Parker these refills will fit in 🙄
    • RegDiggins 23 July 12:40
Recently was lucky enough to buy a pristine example of the CF crocodile ball with the gold plating. Then of course I faced the same problem we all have over the years ,of trying to find e refill. Fortunately I discovered one here in the U.K. I wonder if there are other sources which exist in other countries, by the way they were not cheap pen

I have a Conway Stewart Trafalgar set. It was previously owned by actor Russell Crowe and includes a letter from him. Can anyone help me with assessing its value?
