I sat last night reading about this pen and I'm totally amazed and impressed. Thank you, speedy.

 

I don't like gold fittings, I'm a big fan of clean, unfussy, well-engineered design, and I'm really starting to fall for demonstrators because I like seeing the ink. The only thing I don't like about my Lamy Vistas is that they're not piston fillers (I have no problem with converters, I just want to see more ink). The only thing I don't like about the TWSBI is that there are no italic nibs (so far).

 

Yet, without even knowing how the pen writes or feels, I want them all now! I'm thinking through every combination of nib size, nib colour, barrel colour, piston colour... and I'll want some duplicates!

 

Do I hold out for a silver italic nib and an aluminium piston? Will the black fittings look better in the green and blue? Will there be more colours? Do I match them with darker inks? How many lighter colour inks will I use regularly to justify x number of clear barrels? If there isn't a dark grey, what will I use for black ink?

Glad you like the pen. yes, no italic nib at the moment. Since I am new in this fountain pen making business; thought I do have many years experiences in writing instruments manufacturing, I would like to start the fountain pen gradually. After you get the first pen on hand and like it (meaning many people like you give me positive feedback) then I can put more throttle to accelerate the speed to come out more products.

Much better, Speedy. However, I find the little right-facing triangular arrows in the "How to fill" sketch a bit confusing. While I know how to fill a piston fill pen such as yours, the little triangular arrows didn't signify to me that they were showing the progression of the task. I think using "Step 1", "Step 2", "Step 3" labels would be clearer.

What Lloyd said. Also it might be worthwhile to simplify the drawing of the pen a bit in that scene and show it and the process in its entirety (more steps). Montblanc ink bottles come with a leaflet that has excellent instructions on how to fill a pen.

 

Hmm, the next scene contains the cap and the section/pen. Should the arrow colors on the section be switched? Now the rotation is the same as the cap but it should be the opposite (as they are screwed together)?

Ah, those were not related... Ok... hmmm, that was a bit confusing.

 

It could be worthwhile to add a bit of context to those schematics and add labels too. As in showing the cap rotating in relation to the pen > draw a bit of the pen in grey outline where it is supposed to be and add a label 'How to open or close the cap.' And with the section add a little bit of the barrel in grey outline and add a label 'How to dis/reassemble the section'.

 

'Not over tighten' would work better as 'Do not over-tighten'.

I think it looks great. A few comments:

 

The capping/uncapping with arrows is probably unnecessary.

The application of silicone oil is not clear as to where or what that is for.

It looks great. However, the English needs to be corrected in a couple locations.

 

- On the graphic side, it should say "Do not over tighten" instead of "Not over tighten"

- Also on the same side, it should be "silicone grease" with an "e" instead of "silicon oil"

 

 

Also, on the graphic side of the paper, it should probably be mentioned that the lower four sections are regarding maintenance of the pen. Adding the headings "How to fill" for the first section and "How to disassemble" for the second section would be a good idea.

 

 

 

In all, this whole project looks great and I cannot wait to have one of my own.

Thanks for the new instructions - where to put the grease is now clear to me - and of course for the lovely photographs!

 

On "ass'y" for "assembly" - it looks odd to me, but maybe it's a technical drawing thing? Probably better to spell it in full.

 

Also, on the bottom of the box, "reduce waste" and "save the earth" (="save Earth," the planet, because "save earth" - without "the" - suggests collecting soil - tricky use of English, this one!).

 

The 750 is the vacuum filler, right? Will probably end up with one several of those, too!

No problem with the mechanical pencil: there are plenty of us who enjoy a good mechanical pencil almost as much as we love our fountain pens.

Speedy, in the diagram showing the parts, it is not clear where the parts 7 and 8 will go. BTW hat is the function of these parts? why are they called the feeder?

I like the pencils, too. It looks like you took the best of the iconic Rotring 600, which unfortunately is no longer made, and the Caran D'Ache Metal pencils, which are sturdy but have the look and feel of real wooden pencils. Both are favorites of myself and many others.

I've just learned of this TWSBI phenomenon, thanks to an off-hand comment in another thread (and a helpful pointer here). This looks fantastic! I am truly impressed. I'm thrilled to see a new pen being born, and that it's happening here makes it even more special. I hope you will meet with great success -- and I hope I'm lucky enough to land one of those first-run pens when they're offered!

And, looking around your website, I'm amazed to see that you have a vacuum-filler in development as well. It's beautiful! Your pens look equally elegant as demonstrators and opaque models. I already want one of each variety!

I don't have the schedule for the 750 yet, must get the 530 done first. 750 will need couple of new toolings on grip, cap, new inner cap... also new double injection barrel (tough one, need to run some fast tooling test first). The nib is one size bigger, by the way, Germany quote me the 14K gold nib (old price), it will cost roughly US$85/pc. Isn't it very expensive??
