Nibs

@Andrew_L that is a lot of good testing!!

My two nibs are of the vertical 9128 type you can see one has much more tipping material. It works just as the other but does railroad once in a while and on my cheap work notepads it will tear the paper :(

can't complain too much as these were both free!!

The one that is bent must be straightened, it is not right and bent to down is adds stiffness. The one that scratches must be looked at 10x loupe for understanding why it does it. The 9128 is EF size, so the nib doesn't have to big tip, but all those replacement Esterbrook nib units are cheap nibs (at their times), it's like comparing a Lamy Safari to Lamy 2000. Also the rails can be from dirty channels in the feed because the ebonite feed should work well, but I also sometimes had rails, but I associated it with a modern filling system - because modern converter is not adapted to fill such a nib unit without nipple. I am not tested my nib units in vintage pens.

Hi Andrew  ,

Very nice pen.

Have you ever tried to grind this Capless  Namiki pens? I love to have a pen but I need a EEF nib. I have seen someone using a EEF ( Spencerian ground nib by a nib master. It is amazing and very dry side of the writing to suit Spencerian writing) I agree with him to have a nib to enough writing but not wet. In tat way hair lines are very controllable.  I like the pilot  Nimiki Elabo Flacon . I have already one pen SF. I just bought today a vintage Namiki Flacon , again a SF Black laqur Pen . Don't know why is means but guess it must be a Rasin Black pen. I am planing to grind that nib oneday to a EEF.

Yes, I have ground Capless NU and Falcon to EF/UEF several times. I still have one of the my first Capless VPs with ground to UEF nib, which is still my favorite pen for drawing by commission.

Thank you   @Andrew_L  Beautiful web site with beautiful work. I like that pen . I have a collections of pilot pens and I only miss this capless pen. It is on my list already. Thank you for this special grinding on this pen.

I have another question for you. Do you have any videos  on Nib grinding techniques  and the tools you use . I am interested in learning some basic. So I can tune some odd nibs of some of my fountain pens I don't use regularly.

I guess you do your grinding manually and not using many electric tools. I appreciate your share and the idea and if you don't mind I am asking this question  here. Your work / drawing and writing is very impressive and thank you for sharing your passion.

Thank you. I'm not friends with videos)), because I don't have an assistant, and it's impossible to do everything alone. For grinding I have micro-lathe (can be replaced by Dremel), some stones, Micromesh and microscope for viewing and control. But I view some videos from other masters on YouTube and they are almost all the same. In this direction, the main thing is not the basis, the main thing is the personal experience of each master, his findings and achievements, which the masters do not share in order to preserve their individuality.
