Ink Sample Exchange - United States

Recommended Posts

I have some inks to trade for samples. They will be in the empty plastic vials that Goulet uses. I will fill them to 5ml.

Inks I have:

Nostalgic Impressions Purple Ink (I have the one in the Large Glass Apothecary Jar)

Diamine Majestic Purple

Noodler's Black Swan in Australian Roses

Noodler's Ottoman Rose

Noodler's Cactus Fruit Eel

Scribal Workshop Mermaid

Diamine Aqua Lagoon

Organics Studio Nickel

Organics Studio Vanadium

Organics Studio Jane Austen

Organics Studio Emily Dickinson

Monteverde Purple (My personal favorite ~ I think this ink is so underrated. I love the pinkish-purple color!)

I am interested in the Levenger inks, but as far as I know they are not sold as samples (except the cartridge set, and I don't want cartridges). I would really like to test out some of the colors if anyone is able to help out, that would be greatly appreciated! :)

Below are the Levenger Inks I am interested in trying.

Levenger: Amethyst, Pomegranate, Shiraz, Regal, Cobalt Blue, Skies of Blue, Blue Bahama, True Teal

Please contact me by PM if interested in a sample trade.

Thank you very much!

  • Hero 233 (Blue)
  • Hero 234 (Carbon Black)

  • Toucan Black
  • Kodak Photo-Flo 200
    • Surfactant. Recommended on this site for tweaking inks and improving flow (easily found via search), I got it because I sometimes dilute my Noodler's inks heavily. This is concentrated and you will want to dilute it (Sandy1's instructions). A vial full is likely all you will ever need for ink usage. Offering so you won't have to buy a big bottle like I did.

Yes, that is a lot of inks. FPN member TMac deserves some credit for getting me started, I ordered some used pens through Classifieds when I was new to fountain pens and he was so kind as to have included 3 mostly full 1 oz bottles of Diamine ink which were my first colored inks which obviously got me somewhat hooked (Thanks again!!). Also, I have been frugal about it and got a number of them used or otherwise below what it would cost to replace them.

I am interested in trying most things so to not let this list restrict you. However, only ones that come to particular mind that I am seeking at the moment are:

  • Diamine Hope Pink
  • Sailor Kobe #31
  • There is some blue Pilot Iroshizuku ink that is really iconic. I am not one to pursue the perfect blue, but I feel I should acquire a small sample of whatever this one is at some point just so I will have seen what it looks like.

PM me if you are interested. Thanks!

Hi. I have some inks available to trade! I will trade in 5mL vials. Mostly Noodler's ink and two Levengers. Most of these inks were bought in 2007, except the Kung Te-Cheng and Black Swan in Australian Roses, which were purchased this month in 2014. I just mention it b/c I don't know if the inks ever change over the years.

Noodlers:

Zhivago

Aircorp blue-black

Apache Sunset

Green Marine

Squeteague

Kung Te-Cheng

Black Swan in Australian Roses

Levenger:
Skies of Blue

Blue Bahama

I know people here are not really cartridge people for the most part, but I have some Levenger cartridges too I can offer to trade if anyone is interested.

Levenger (Cartridge):

Cocoa

Gemstone Green

Cardinal Red

Amythyst

I am interested in anything I haven't tried. I like colors, don't like blacks.

I sometimes use fountain pen ink in a brush pen for sketching. And I occasionally do watercolors over inked lines, so inks that are semi-water resistant or can make a good wash are appreciated.

I am also in search of a nice brown, and am interested in

Noodler's Golden Brown

Noodler's Rome Burning

I can do trades as soon as I get a shipment of vials delivered, so sorry if there is a short delay.

Thanks!

A question and an update ...

The question: In the past, someone on fpm has been a great source for ink-swap vials, dirt cheap. Is there still an FPN source for them? I know I can get 10 vials from GPC ($3 + shipping) or from streetfair on ebay ($2.40 + shipping) l but I'd love to know if there are alternatives to going that route. If I throw a 10-pack on an eventual but inevitable GPC order, the change in shipping is negligible. I'm happy to support GPC or streetfair, but getting them "in-house" would be preferred, especially if I can do it for less.

The update: A close friend recently got rid of a bunch of her stuff prior to a move. I was the (very) lucky recipient of most of her fountain pen supplies and, with her donations, my ink bottle collection doubled (from 4 to 8) overnight!

Here's what I've got (to share), for now:

Diamine:

  • Oxblood
  • Red Dragon

Iroshizuku:

  • Ku-jaku

Noodlers:

  • Baystate Blue
  • Purple Martin
  • X-Feather
  • Widow Maker

Private Reserve:

  • Blue Suede

Wow. Looking at this list, it really did double my "more than sample sized" ink collection.

What I'm looking for:

  • Please disregard the wish-list I posted earlier.
  • I am open to just about anything. The more I do this, the more I realize that I'm interested in many more inks than not.
  • In general, I lean toward more saturated colors, including black.
Edited by Fozziebear

My ink-swap post(s) become out of date eventually. My signature is always current. If you want to swap some ink, here's what I have: Diamine: Ancient Copper, Oxblood, Poppy Red, Red Dragon, Sherwood Green; Iroshizuku: Kon-peki, Ku-jaku, Take-sumi; Noodlers: 54th Mass, BSB, Purple Martin, X-Feather, Widow Maker; Private Reserve: Blue Suede. I'm partial to highly saturated inks, but am open to suggestions. PM if interested.

Hi all, I am relatively new to fountain pens, but have already been converted! They are great to use just about any time. I am still working on amassing my collection and would love to participate in some exchange to find our what types/color of ink I will like best. I don't have much to offer right now. Maybe someone's kindness will make it possible for me to aquire a few samples. I can send something back if needed but like I said, I don't have much.

I have:

Pilot blue/black ink in bottle or cartridges....

I want:

Anything that anyone thinks is worthy of trying out!

Don't know about people here, but Amazon has very similar vials (if not the same) in 250 count and 1000 count lots. I don't think they're quite identical as they have a writable surface on one side. 250 looks like about 13 cents each, 1000 looks like 8 cents each. Goulet's are 29 cents each (but convenient, and not a big deal to throw in with another order...).

Hmm. Do I need a thousand ink vials?

To get the vials we use for the ink exchange system, contact Dillon at fpninkvials at gmail dot com.

Dillon was still at it not too long ago when I bought mine. You can contact him for pricing and the like. I purchased from him twice and it was a good deal both times.

I will admit they are not as nice of vials as GPC but they are perfectly adequate. When If I buy more I will probably look to see if I can find somewhere to get the GPC style at a good bulk rate being a willing to spend a little bit more if I can get the nicer* vials. Between experiments, mixes, and trades I currently have only a handful of the ~350 vials (IIRC) I originally bought from Dillon left.

* GPC vials have a cap that takes more turns than Dillon's to get on making it a little less likely to put it on (bleep)-eyed. The GPC vials are transparent whereas Dillon's are translucent which makes the ink not look as nice in the vial. Dillon's have a flat bottom where as GPC vials have a skirted conical bottom; I like Dillon's better in this respect as they are a little more stable and I find the cone sometimes gets in my way.

I've used more than 1000 vials and 2000 pipettes. You are not nearly as bad.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).
