This morning's smoothie is half a cup of Greek Yoghurt, a cup and 1/2 fresh strawberries, 1 banana, 1 small apple and a tiny piece of peeled fresh ginger, all whirled in the blender. :puddle:

It's Memorial Day here in the States. But many of us will acknowledge the sacrifices made by our friends and allies around the globe. We have all suffered great losses and share the same pain. May it not have been in vain.

This may seem like it's a little 'off the subject' but I will say it anyway.

One of my pleasures in life, is to mow the lawn, with a cylinder motor mower. Anyway, I took it out for the first time this year, on Friday afternoon, I started it up, and did a couple of circuits around the outer edges of the lawn before it conked out, I tried to start it again, but all it did was splutter at me!!!

I abandoned the project until today, took it out, and tried it once more, [perhaps it was in a better mood!!! It wasn't!] So I loaded it in the car boot, [trunk, for those in the USA!] and took it over to the repair place a few miles away. I did phone them before I left, and was told that the waiting list was about three weeks!

As I walked in the man behind the counter, greeted me with a beaming smile, and a:- 'Henry the Penman!, we haven't seen you for a while!!!'

Anyway, the long and short of it was that he came outside, and looked at it, went away and came back with a spanner or two, and a new spark plug, within 2 or 3 minutes it was done, and 'purring' like a good'n!

I bought the chap a drink, and paid for the spark plug, and left to get back to the job in hand.

I felt like a 'local' VIP!!!

[i seem to remember, I had repaired his father's fountain pen, some years ago!

Hi there!

I'm back from Portobello, and I'm usually as tired as 'is' quite normal for men of my age!!! It was an early start this morning!]

Anyway the morning kicked off well, with a good customer of mine from Alabama, [yes, I know, it's a long way to come, but he works over here, and comes to see me about once a month! [He's an addict, but fortunately he's in denial!] Anyway, he settled for an Oversized Vacumatic in Burgundy with a very flexible nib.

Later, another good customer of mine came and delivered about half a dozen old pens that he had bought at auction over the past few weeks, all of which need repairing, and some need major surgery!

This was followed by a visit from 'Tenney', who had just landed from USA, and had managed to catch an earlier flight in order to catch me before I left at my usual time of about 2.00pm. He turned up at about 1.30pm and we went over pretty well all of my selection of pens, he picked out about 5, or 6 that he wanted, I quoted him and he seemed very happy with what we agreed upon [money-wise!] for them. I'm pretty sure that he was a happy bunny by the time he left, because he wanted to take a photograph before he actually departed, so hopefully, he will be posting it on here shortly after he returns to the States! [i've got my usual inane grin on my face!]

All in all, it was a very good day, I was certainly kept busy.

See Y'awll!!

I'm not sure if this will make a lot of sense to the followers of this thread, but I worked on a vintage pen repair yesterday, which took me the best part of Sunday and Monday!

The pen that I am referring to was a Conway Stewart 770, [probably quite late for that model, as it was fortunately made of black plastic as opposed to the more usual Black Hard Rubber. It was the type without the blind-cap, on top of the cap, and bearing in mind that it needed it's clip replacing, it was a pretty difficult pen to repair! It also needed the lever replacing, but that is nothing in comparison to the clip replacement!!!

I have a lovely little machine called a 'Sonic Cleaner', and that cap spent the best part of Sunday being 'shaken' around in it, before I could remove the 'inner-cap', but I did it in the end!!!

Fortunately, I have a large store of spare parts which includes a whole assortment of 'donor' clips, so I worked on the 'patient' for the best part of Monday, and low and behold, I completed the repairs to the 'Patient' about an hour before the Jubilee Concert began on the TV last night! Replacing the lever seemed 'small-beer' by comparison, but the satisfaction by the end of it was fantastic!

The funny thing about the Jubilee Concert, was that I was one of the lucky people who had been selected, to be offered two tickets for the big occasion a couple of months ago, but when I read the details about having to be 'cleared' by 'Security' some four hours before the concert started, I decided to give the tickets to someone else, who wouldn't mind giving up four hours of their time, and would enjoy the concert, probably more than I would! -_-

And what did I do instead? Replace a clip, and a lever on a pen!!!

But the satisfaction was terrific!!! :clap1:

Henry, I'm surprised! I know you're a big Beatles fan, so giving up a chance to see Sir Paul live all for a mere four hours... you must be hiding something.

Back in the day before the internet, I spent all night in a queue to buy tickets to a McCartney concert. And then I did it again. Having seen him live seven times (including with that first band he was with)... well, I'm just hoping he gets back here again.

And a Happy Birthday to Sir Paul who turns 70 this month.

After seeing how thick the throng was, I think I'd have rather watched it on the telly as well....rolleyes.gif

It would be nice if we could see it over here some time....blush.gif

There needs to be an art gallery devoted to fountain pen photography and art....or at least an exhibit. These are exquisite....as always!cloud9.gif

Good morning Bruno, I suppose I would have felt a little differently about it, if it had been Eric Clapton playing! :puddle:

But even then, Four hours is a long time to hang around waiting for people to set up cameras and sound systems before anything actually happens!

The concert was about another four hours long, and I'm sure that it was very good, [i haven't actually seen it yet! Only snippets, in between stuff on the other channels! But I'm sure they will be showing it in all it's glory within the next few weeks!]
