Has Anyone Heard Of Henry Simpole?

A few years ago, I was asked [via the then director of Conway Stewart] if I could create an overlay with just 'the moon, and stars' as the subject! I thought about it for a while, but I didn't get much further than just thinking about it! :hmm1:

The particular potential customer wanted it made of gold BTW, so it was a serious proposal!

What I couldn't deal with was that if the 'pierced out' parts were the stars, and the moon, then they would be black, and the 'space' or 'cosmos' would have been gold! Alternatively, if I had tried to do the reverse, you can't have the moon and stars just hanging around as they do in reality, they would just not stay where you put them!!!

It was a shame really, the thought of a lovely crescent moon, and a scattering of stars sounds lovely, but I can't see how it could be done. :bawl: :hmm1:

On a different note, Bruno, the overlays have been 'finished' and 're-polished', and are all packed up, and are ready to be sent back to you. I just hope that they are up to your impeccably high standards!!! :hmm1: :o

That would have been the perfect time to use a colored pen for the underlay. Imagine a deep velvety purple for the moon and stars... Yummy! :eureka:

How about - for the 'Moon and Stars' overlay you had made a full silver jacket with gold inlaid for the Moon and Stars????

I know.........."Chris! Be quiet!!! " :roflmho:

If budget/price aren't a concern: gold for the Moon, diamonds for the stars.

I've started to create another overlay, I'm still at the drawing stage, but it is quite different from the more recent Fairies, and Art Nouveau subjects. The new design is very Art Deco, of a lady dressed in 1930's style long dress, and wearing a 'fascinator!'

I've always liked the idea of doing a series of 'flappers!'

I'll keep you posted!!!

There is no end to the talents shown here.......... and I'm sure we all wait with bated breath now to see the latest 'flapper' design.

What I want to know is this please Henry............ will all these designs become pens for sale one day??? I'm hoping so.............verrily I hope so!!! :notworthy1: :notworthy1: :notworthy1: :notworthy1: :notworthy1: (saving pennies)

Isn't there a saying that goes "reach for the stars, and be happy with the Moon"?

Ghost Plane, you're giving me a Warm Fuzzy attack!!!

And I haven't got my utility belt on at the moment! What should I do?

I think I'll just go back to the workshop for a lie down  for a little while!

I've just got back from P/bello Rd. Tired and a little bit wetter than when I set off this morning, but you know what they say, April showers bring forth May flowers! But not enough apparently to avoid hose-pipe bans!

All in all it was a really good day today, lots of interest in the vintage stock of pens, also some enquiries about my overlaid pens, which is always nice.

Near to the end of the day, a lady came to my stand asking about a pen that she needed for a film that she was involved with making, [around the turn of the century time period], I showed her a couple that would have been appropriate, and she thanked me, and left the stand, and took a business card. When I got home there was a message on my answer machine, from her saying that hopefully I could come back to my stand to see her, as she had decided that she wanted the pen that I had shown her! She must have thought that she had left the message on a mobile phone, but little did she realise that I don't own a mobile phone! I phoned her back, and told her that I would be available to see her next Saturday, if she still wanted to buy the pen, so, I will have to wait and see!

In the meantime, the Warm Fuzzies seem to have subsided Ghost Plane, so no need to use the utility belt just yet! ;)

Did she say what the film will be called? Do you remember? How lovely that she sought you out as a resource. I've seen a number of vintage pens in period pieces of late....Bravo! I hope it all works out. Maybe you'll get a credit line in the movie....wink.gif
