Has Anyone Heard Of Henry Simpole?

Assuming that I have not been banished to the "Naughty Step"! I will post some good news, [having just got back from Portobello Road,] I sold two of my overlaid pens!

Both were bought by people who were strangers to me before they arrived at my booth, the first couple stopped and looked, then asked me about the pens on display, then asked if they could try them, then they decided which one they wanted,[a Tendril Pattern pen in Vermielle].The gentleman selected the nib size that he wanted, and then bought it. :cloud9:

About 10 minutes after the deal had been done, the second couple turned up, and went through a similar process, and settled for a Jasmin Pen in silver! :cloud9:

To say that I was over the moon, would have been an understatement!!!

I decided against the idea of calling for the 'Rolls' to come and pick me up to take me home, and settled for the tube as my mode of transport this week!

All in all, it was a very good day!

Not a new design but some new pictures..... :puddle:

Here's a montage of The Number Seven pen, showing the initial sketched/traced design, the sheet silver second stage, and of course the completed pen.

More to follow!

Hi,

Just to fill in the gaps, this design was named the Number Seven Pen because it was my seventh design.

In Neal's picture, the number seven is fairly clearly visible to the left of the lady's face on the cap overlay, the barrel overlay is upside down in the picture, but if you look carefully, you can see it!

The tracing paper pattern of the barrel, is the right way up! I've just noticed.

By the time I did this design, I had done a couple of overlays for Conway Stewart, and I had started putting the initials C and S in the designs subliminally, they seemed to like them there!

See yer!!!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOObody expects the Spanish Inquisition!!!!

But I think it's only fair to mention, that there's a man out the back getting the "COMFY CHAIR" ready for someone!

Glad to hear that you're still enjoying the Ants Pen, perhaps you might care to add a few more pictures of it with it's new nib, and perhaps some writing samples, that would be nice!!! Better than the COMFY CHAIR anyway!!!

Last I heard someone was sketching orchids and trying to find suitable ladybirds for someone's bespoke design.

What ho?

How was P'bello?

Now, that is what I call a suitable nib for a large pen!!! Congratulations! What brand of nib is it? I can't tell from the photos.

Wow. I'm a MB fan boy and I look at that photo and think I need that pen. It is too large for me to use but usage is only a small percentage of a pen's desire to me.

Hi Esterbex,

You're absolutely right! The Ladybird thing didn't succeed, and was subsequently dropped as a project!

The orchids have been drawn, but have been put on the 'back burner!' Mainly because I am in the process of doing two bespoke pens at the moment.

As and when I can get to them, I am planning to do a series of pens using 'Fairies' as the theme! I found an old book recently, with a set of illustrations of fairies, with different fruits of the forest, and various flowers, I can't say that I have a particular affinity to 'Fairies', but the pictures are very pretty. I took the book with me to Portobello yesterday, and showed the pictures to a couple of my customers while I was there, and they seemed to have been favourably received.

Yesterday, and the week before were both very busy days at Portobello, at times there were people patiently waiting to see me while I was dealing with someone already at my booth! When that happens, time seems to fly by, and before I knew it, it was time to pack everything away, and go home, to a much earned mug of tea!

Fairies!!!! You have now tapped into my Peter Pan obsession. Some of the sweetest depictions are in the prequel editions of that story....Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens by JM Barrie with illustrations by

Arthur Rackham. If you Google Arthur, you'll see his wonderful drawings in great detail....so lovely! I like his version of Pan better than the Disney contrivance. Ah well....

The statue in Kensington Gardens has Peter atop a collection of woodland animals, fairies and plants. You should go see it. Or google it. i'll see what I can find to give you food for thought.

I never got into the pixie/fairy thing, being raised on the old, bloody, and spooky Celtic takes of the Sidhe. Faerie/Fae stories around our household tended to the epic and grand on a scale that made Tolkien's elves look warm and cuddly compared to the Seelie and Unseelie Courts.

I have enjoyed flying about looking at all things Arthur Rackham - than you Wendi!

We should all have some fairies in our childhood..........and for those entering their second childhood it has to be even more so..............don't you agree???

In Chinese tradition they say that when a person gets to their 60th birthday they begin their second childhood! I'm ready to start school again!!!! :roflmho: Teach me all about Fairies please! :cloud9:

Just BTW, presumably you are all aware that Fairies are not real!

They're figments of people's imagination! Sorry to be a misery-guts but that is the case!!!

Anyway, the inspiration fairies have blessed me today, and I can't wait to get started! :eureka:

Hopefully Neal will be able to show some pictures here pretty soon.

May the fairies look after you!

Uh oh. Let's hope Truffle Finder's household Brownie doesn't take a pet at being called mythical and cause his milk to spoil! :bunny01:

No. No. No!

You've got me all wrong! What I 'meant' to say was that 'some people' think that these 'little delightful' creatures are figments of people's imaginations!

You and me know however that those people are wrong in that assumption, don't we?

Pixies, imps, and the little people are lovely little creatures, and fairies are the cutest of them all, [as we both know!] and it is always a pleasure to know that they around us knowing exactly what we are doing all day long! [it surely is what keeps us on the straight and narrow, is it not?]

Well then, we'll have no more of this encouraging talk about the spoiling of the milk then!!! Shall we?

Truffle Finder.

P.S. I do believe in fairies, really, I doo!!!

Having personally known a tooth fairy for a number of years now, I'd not want to tell any one of them that they were "imaginary". The repercussions.....

I think I'd like to see some water fairies on a pen....;)

Miss my tooth fairy. On one occasion he lifted me up pillow and all and left me sleeping in a nearly seated position after leaving so many board games under my pillow. I think he felt bad about how many fillings I needed.
