Henry just finished working on the Ants Pen, which he made for me a few years back. I wanted it to have a large nib and Henry happily obliged by fitting it with a nib that is the same size as that found on the Great Exhibition pen. I have to say, I missed this pen dearly while it was travelling overseas, but as usual, Henry did a stupendous job on it. He also put a lovely band oth the cracked cap of a Conklin Taper cap I recently acquired. I'll have to post a photo here soon.

Despite the exceptionally cold weather throughout the day yesterday, I was kept quite busy at my booth at Portobello, 'Lough Loon' turned up from across the herring pond, and spent a considerable time with me, looking at the vintage pens, my friend George was 'volunteered' to take a picture of us both at the stand, but of course it remains to be seen whether it will be posted on here or not!

I was expecting two comparative new-comers to fountain pen collecting, so, I had decided to take my 'Pension Scheme' folder of pens, to show them both, I can't deny, that I do enjoy seeing people's reactions when I show them to people who can appreciate how rare they are.

All in all, it was a very satisfying day.

Ahh! Wendi dear........thank you! ...... I have one stonkingly huge pen and that fulfills my 'huge pen' needs - but I would love a larger nib in it.........a bigger nib, like the one Henry fitted in the "Ants" pen! I wonder if that is possible Henry? :notworthy1:

ETA: I think the sheer humongousness of the Exhibition makes the CS nib look smaller than it is. I've seen it in person....It is quite large. The only other nib I've seen to match it or surpass it is the #10 on a Waterman's 20 which I laid hand to at the pen club meeting a couple of weeks ago. Now that is a honking nib! yikes.gif

The Truffle knows what he used, though....What say you Great Wizard?rolleyes.gif

I get the feeling that I'm being 'nudged' into a space between a rock and a hard place, by two rather determined people here!!!

I have already been in touch and explained to one of them, of the major reconstruction that would have to be done, to replace the nib unit with that sized nib, in that particular pen!!!

Trust me when I tell you that this kind of reconstruction is really 'major!' Not to mention the problems that might arise due to overenthusiastic customs operatives both in the UK, and over there in Tasmania! :glare:

Sorry about that!!!

I give in to the Truffle........... we have just christened him I think! :roflmho:

I'll be content with my pen................ but...........should I land in England again - and that may happen - I can bring it and leave it.............for several gifted people to play with - OK? :bunny01: :bunny01:

I've spent the best part of the day today, doing the cap and barrel drawings for a pen which has been ordered for a local person [in silver]

I was given 5 or 6 different themes to incorporate in the overall design, I have contacted the client, and she will be seeing me by the weekend, I am hoping that she will approve of my drawings, but there is never any guarantee with these things!

I'm hoping to get on with the orchid design tomorrow, seeing as I am obviously 'in the mood' to attempt it. Hopefully, I will be able to send copies of the designs to Neal for photography, and perhaps he will post them on this thread.

See Y'awll!!!

The picture that George took will be coming! I have now recovered from jet lag and can start to do things like post pictures. It was great spending the time with you, I really enjoyed your Pension Scheme of pens.

So stay tuned the picture of you and I will be coming....maybe not until Saturday though!

Yesterday's trip to Portobello was quite a busy day, made particularly interesting by another visit by the couple from the Indian sub-continent who had purchased a silver Jasmin pen as a present for her father who loves fountain pens. This time they brought with them a couple of pens which both need considerable restoration, one of them is a Watermans 52 [the lever box is missing, and has been replaced with a 'no-name' lever from another make of pen, at some point in the pen's past!]

The other pen is much more exciting, it is a 'Gooptu' [of Calcutta] 'Favourite No:4', which needs 'spousing up' to say the least! It has obviously seen 'heavy action' during it's lifetime, and I should imagine that it was made in the 1930's, it is made from 'black and pearl' plastic, and is a button filler, unlike the Parker junior Duofold, the barrel blind cap is not made of black hard rubber, but matches the black and pearl of the rest of the pen. the cap however has a black blind cap which will need replacing, as it is very badly damaged, the clip is missing, and I will try to find a generic replacement from my stock of 'spares'.

I really must apologise for not being able to transfer any pictures of either of these pens to show how they look 'before' the restoration begins, but no doubt there will be some photographs posted here after the work has been done. The trouble is partly because of my impatience to get started on the process of the restoration!

See Y'awll!

I've just noticed, in the 'Similar Topics' just below this space, that Lough Loon has posted the picture of him, at the booth in Portobello on a new thread, if I knew how to do it, I would transfer it to this thread!

Any help here?
