Hi! Y'awll!!!

I'm back and very very tired!

The flight was absolutely full, so unlike the outward journey, where I was lucky enough to have been given a row of three seats,so I was able to flip up the arms of the two other seats and spread out and go to the land of nod quite satisfactorily!

Consequently, I landed in fine form, and after a Rubin Sandwich in the restaurant, I put the utility belt to good use, and successfully eradicated the 'warm fussies' from the rooms that had been infected! I'm pleased to tell you that there were no spiders or nasty snakes though! Which was a good thing, because my 'utility belt' is ill-equipped to deal with that kind of 'unpleasantness'!!!

Back to the subject of the Dunhill Namiki repair, I used a brass tube cut to size [length-wise] to cover the break, and cutting the slit where the lever was fitted, and glued using slow -cure Araldite to fix it in place, it is not exactly an invisible mend, but it was as good as I could do in the circumstances because the crack was too close to the butterflies in the design of the pen, which is quite unusual, more often than not, the cracks follow the line of least resistance and usually avoid the images where there is understandably more 'strength' in those parts of the pen.

Ghost Plane:- The internal 'splint' [the brass cylinder] is about an inch long, and the 'slit' for the lever, is approximately half an inch long, it certainly is much more robust than just the hard rubber barrel would have been without the support of the metal cylinder inside.

Well, my bed is calling, so I will get my head down fairly soon!

See yer!!!

After a 'jet-lagged' deep-sleep session last night, I'm feeling pretty good this morning, [no the Warm Fussies didn't follow me back home!!!

'Sally Wally', were you the lady who came and spoke to me when I was with Howard Levy [of Bexley Pens]? It was really nice to meet you, and thanks for your 'post' here.

Exterbex recorded the talk that I gave at the show, so with a bit of luck, it will hopefully be transferable to the website fairly shortly  !!!

She also took some pictures during the course of the show, so hopefully they should start appearing soon.

BTW, my talk that I gave at the show went well, and was attended by a young couple, who I hadn't met before, but the young man is a distant relative of the Simpole family, who emigrated to America in the early 1900's and decided to change their name when they got there, because they felt that Simpole sounded too much like 'simple', so they changed it to De Vere! [it does sound grand!] Lovely people!!!

See Y'awll!!!

There's a photo in Brian's slideshow of a Bruno Corsini piston filler with an overlay done by Henry. What a beautiful looking pen! And it looks terribly similar to the photos of that gorgeous new super secret red hard rubber overlay which were posted earlier in this thread... more information is required (*hint hint*)!

Also, for anyone keeping tabs, the replacement feed and nib for my Jasmin pen arrived. It has been in use for several days without any more embarrassing ink drips! Jasmin and I are both relieved! Hooray for a problem solved! Thanks again, Henry!

Hi Reprieve,

Yes, [my goodness you are observant!] the pen that you saw, was indeed the same overlay, as the one that you had seen here on this thread, and I took the red hard rubber one over there because I knew that Bruno was going to be there, and we have decided that we will be making them in two different shades of Red HR, and also in black, he is also considering doing a few with piston filling mechanisms, some as button fillers, and strangely a couple of them as eye droppers!!! Chris are you listening?

Henry was one of the first people I met when I started collecting vintage pens... back when he'd attend the LA Pen Show in the mid 90s. I haven't seen him since the 2003 London Show, so when I heard he was coming to Ohio I decided to make the trek.

A while ago I approached Henry about doing an overlay for my pens. Henry and I have a few things in common... one is that we both have a wonderful appreciation of the Art Nouveau period. We also appreciate the early pens. So the style for the overlay was something modeled on some of the very early Parker overlays (as was pictured in this thread a few months ago). Another thing in common is that we were both born in 1951... a really great year apparently.

The red pen you saw earlier was a button filler, albeit a mock up made with some material I had around but not good enough for the proper pen. It was for Henry to size the overlay. I recently made a black piston filler to try out. It too looks great with the overlay. Henry and I went through some available colors and we decided to make some pens in the three colors he mentioned... black, a red/orange, and a deeper red, all hard rubber by the way. I can easily adapt the pen to be piston filler, button filler or even eyedropper, so I plan to make them bespoke. I also tend to stick vintage nibs in my pens and hope to do some nice early flexy nibs on these too.

And Esterbex... it was a pleasure to meet you in Ohio as well. I'll look forward to seeing your photos of the show.

A piston filler, a flexy vintage nib, a Simpole overlay, a lovely handmade pen, red hard rubber... seriously, could it get any better?!! When will you be taking orders?

What a great family story.

And it WAS me, Henry! I was so nervous about meeting the mythological personage :notworthy1: who has inspired all these comments on FPN that I was possibly a bit weird. :)

Hi Henry! Hi Bruno!!!!

I've already said directly to Bruno that I fancy a dark red ED filler..........and a black too - or do I have to decide now???? :roflmho:

My head has been somewhere else this last hour or so..............checking out the LA details!!

Now settle down everyone, just doing some research.........but a hotel with a golf course is a winner in this house!!!! I'll let you know the decision later. :bunny01: :bunny01: :bunny01:

:cloud9: Just one very special imp managed to coerce me....As my given name is Wendi(y), and of late oft called 'Darling', a young fellow by the name of Peter whispered to me that I reminded him of someone and that he was tired of hanging with those "lost boys" and would I mind terribly if he could accompany me home. Being of a compassionate heart, a sucker for a droplet overlay, and an eyedropper to boot, I was moved to accept his request. A handsome fellow, that Peter Pan. And a smooth talker at that! ;)

Alas, pics of the lovely fellow will have to wait til the morrow as this tablet and FPN seem to be at odds at the moment. -_-

I must say that the pleasure was all mine! Your good humour and kindness have left an indelible mark. I can't thank you enough for that wonderful phone call that allowed me to hear my dear friend's voice for the first time! There was such a bustle where we were I doubt either of us understood what the other said, but I was a very happy bunny!

As for the photos I took....most are yet somewhere across yon pond waiting to be released from bondage. Their term of imprisonment rests in other hands. ;)

I am usually awake at 7.00am, but this morning I slept through till 9.00am having apparently turned off the alarm clock without missing a 'wink' of sleep!!!

'Jet-Lag' What can you do???

Sally-Wally, next time we meet, we must talk some more, I am flattered that you felt 'funny' about meeting a 'mythological personage', but I really am quite a 'normal' person when all's said and done!

Chris, you might be pleased to know that I will be getting the 'masters' off to Lionel for casting either today or tomorrow, so that when they are done, then Bruno will be able to start his side of the 'joint-ops' on the droplet pattern pen! Happy Days are here again!!! :roflmho:

My first mug of tea has been consumed, [and I could do with a replacement!] so after that I really must get started on the day! I think!!

While I was at the Raleigh Pen Show, I saw this on a plaque on the back of a car:- "Turn off the TV, and read a book! It's called, 'Thinking outside the Box!!!' " :ltcapd:

See Y'awll!!

It does feel slightly strange to think that you are all back home............wherever that is in this World!

Henry in London, Bruno in CA, Wendi somewhere exotic and hot..........and me stuck here in Tassie!

However, for a couple of magical minutes I was transported to the hotel bar at Columbus Ohio by a phone call from Bruno, following a phone photo............and I've heard voices!!!! Yes, I heard voices......... :bunny01: :bunny01: :bunny01:

Now I wait to see pens...........lots of pens please!!

 Well, I wish I had lots of pen pics to post just now, but hopefully this will suffice for now. The quality is poor because these are cell phone pics....

The man with the lovely gray pony tail is Stephen Mandell, an old friend of Henry's and quite a Beatles aficionado as well as a Parker 51 expert.

fpn_1320806797__2011-11-04_163111.jpg

And here is my newest compadre....Peter Pan, sporting a gorgeous droplet pattern silver overlay by none other than himself, HCS....

fpn_1320856228__fpn_1320805142__2011-11-08_193332.jpg

So for comparison's sake....Peter's just a bit larger than Tinker Bell, but considerably smaller than that Conway 67, which is about the size of a Parker 51.

Somewhere are pics of me wearing him, but who knows where or when they will turn up....

And I've put in an order for the hard rubber and piston fillers, which hopefully will be here before the end of the month.
