"The bluebirds are flying higher than usual over the Cockoo's nest this year!"

I think I ought to have a lie down!!!

Some very nice people have just arrived dressed in white coats, and they have told me that they are going to take me to a lovely place where I will be looked after, but it worried me a little because one of them mentioned about using the 'comfy chair'!!!

This is a little worrying!

One thing I can assure you, I haven't been drinking! I'm just feeling a bit silly!

Gordon 35,

If at some point in time you find that you have a couple of hours to spare, you could plough through this thread in it's entirety enjoying all the pretty pictures, and you would find out as much as anybody about me, and my pens, by the way, are you aware that there is another thread here called the Spirit of Life Pen by Henry Simpole? [Another hour or so to wade through!] It ran for about a year I think!

It all started in about 1997/8, when I first started making overlays for fountain pens in silver, these were usually Conklin crescent Fillers, which I used to buy at American Pen Shows, then I decided to produce my own Snake Pattern Pen, which was launched in October 1999, followed by the Jasmin Pen, then the Tendril Pattern, by that time, I had a good working relationship with Conway Stewart Pen Company, who had commissioned me to make their Centenary Pen for them, and they were making the base-pens for my overlays! Altogether, I made four overlays for Conway Stewart.

With the exception of some commission pieces, I now concentrate my time on doing 'One-Off' pieces, they are numbered [up to fifty, or to twenty five pieces in each particular series] but each pen carries it's 'hand made' overlay, and each one is slightly different!

With the exception of traditional copies of FP overlay styles, my favourite artistic style is definitely Art Nouveau, although I have done a few using the Art Deco Style as well, more recently.

As a silver and goldsmith, I am 'self taught,'which might explain why I am so proud of the work that I produce, I also deal in, and restore Vintage Fountain Pens, which would explain why I consider myself a card carrying 'Pen Nut!'

I hope that helps!

Gordon, all modesty aside, Henry is one of the most brilliant artisans of our time, as you can see from the samples of his work. He is also a genius in regards to pen repair, having performed seemingly impossible and virtually imperceptible repairs on the bodies of some very rare and fragile models. Think of those artists that restore priceless paintings by the masters. "Pen Nut" indeed!

Think it took Henry, me, and Salman Khattak about a year to get the calligraphy and design together for the Spirit of Life. :hmm1: Henry was inventing new methods to get that beautiful Arabic verse onto the silver and finally hit on a laser to get the job done :eureka:

I thought the Spirit of Life pen was a rush job :roflmho: but I am kidding! Henry is a perfectionist - way past normal perfection..........it has to be absolutely RIGHT!!! :clap1: :clap1: :clap1:

I have my six Simpole pens shuffling up to make room for another that will slither its way from London to Tassie as soon as it is finished.........and I'm told that is not too far away!! Then I'll decide on the next..........and the next...........and the next!! :puddle: Oh, did I not mention my addiction?

Pens with silver overlays by HCS of course!  :yikes:

Glad the show and exhibition were successful! Now I shall settle in the comfy chair next to my mailbox to wait for Kevin and Jasmin... :bunny01: :bunny01: :bunny01:

Reprieve,

I thought that you might like to know, that Kevin and Jasmin have packed their bags, and are ready to make the journey to your part of the world.

But before I send them on their way, I think that I ought to mention something that I only noticed while I was at the Exhibition at G/S hall last week, one of the Dragon pens that was in the display cabinet nearest to the halagin lights, became quite .warm during the course of the day, and when I took it out to show someone, the cap was quite 'tight' to unscrew from the barrel, there is no need to become alarmed, but I thought that it was strange, as I hadn't noticed this before. Normally, all the pens are stored together in the same place that the plastic bodied pens are kept, and the temperature is at a fairly 'temperate' level. I would suggest that when they arrive, you allow Kevin to settle in to his new environment, with the cap off,[or unscrewed slightly] for a while.

One has to realise that Cassien is a very 'natural' material, and is affected by humidity, and it would seem by temperature also.

Anyway, don't worry, I will be in touch with you personally before they are sent, should you decide to change your mind and go for a black base pen.

So, am I correct in assuming that you don't want to change your mind about having a Cassien made pen?

I'm trying, very hard too!!!

How does the number 38 sound to you, this might seem a bit strange, but before the Show, I was looking through the safe here in the workshop, and you'll never guess what I found lurking in the back of the 'fridge'? The number 38 Snake Pen, which I had given to a charity, but they had asked me to look after it until they next have a fund raising auction to sell it, so, I had thought that I would send yours to you as a surprise, because I have only just got the overlays back from Lionel, having had the stones set.

So the delay has been averted!

Now we can talk about your choice of nibs if you like!

Never slither before coffee

Thanks GP! I try not to..........but the older I get, the easier it is to slither........isn't that a strange word, the more you say it the stranger it gets!! :headsmack:

Reprieve - I agree with your choice of black - but then I like all my overlays over black - which is totally different to being 'over easy' as you Yanks like to have your eggs! I guess I need more coffee - something is discombombulating my cogs today! A word dam has broken - help!!!!! :ltcapd:

I like my eggs over easy. I also like them sunny side up, scrambled, soft-boiled, hard-boiled, poached, stirred into soups, baked into cakes... well, let's just say I like eggs. And coffee, I like coffee, too.

Wait, is the egg a metaphor for the fountain pen? 'Cause the egg thing kind of just described my pen collection... ha ha ha!
