Has Anyone Heard Of Henry Simpole?

I have been telling Henry for ages that I would be able to say "I knew you before you were famous!!!"

Now I can say it............and nobody thought about the museum kept at New Scotland Yard - full of the horrors and reminders of past crimes and criminals!!! He is not that one either! He may be like the York Railway Museum, greatly admired by so many - a place to visit when you want to travel back in time to a more relaxed mode!!! :notworthy1: :bunny01:

I think I need to go and make supper............it has been a long day today!

BTW, one of the Snakes hopefully has my name on it!! :cloud9: Tell me it is so please Henry! :cloud9:

Each day is the start of the rest of your life!

Make it count!!!

Henry, I have just seen the White and Black Dragon pens on your site. Can you tell us more about them? Was it a commissioned bespoke design?

Reprieve, you are the first person to have mentioned [or noticed] them on the Web-site!

It was not a commissioned piece, but the dealer next door to my booth at Portobello, deals in oriental porcelain and china pieces, and one Saturday he had a wonderful jar decorated with the most beautiful dragon, he then told me a lot about Chinese dragons. For example, did you know that Imperial dragons have five fingers and toes? [As opposed to bog standard Dragons, who only have four fingers and toes!] they spend their time going around spreading good fortune, and they chase a 'Flaming Pearl' [yes, they do this all day long!]

Anyway, I got inspired, and so I found a book all about Dragons, and did some sketches, and decided to go for a particularly flexible Dragon called Kevin whose body is shaped like the figure of eight, [which apparently is very lucky indeed in China,] and I made the design so that he is always in line with the flaming pearl when the cap is screwed on to the pen.

I have made several of them, but there are only two of them in 'Ivorine' [Cassien]

They are available!

The reason why nothing has happened with them, is that when I made them, Ghost Plane got started on the Spirit of Life Pen, and I got rather tied up with that one for quite a while, until we had worked out how it was to be done, but Kevin didn't mind, he is quite a good natured dragon!!! I did enter one of the white ones in to the Goldsmith's Competition last year, but sadly it didn't get 'placed', but they did exhibit it at the presentation, so it was appreciated by a few people!

I'm pleased that you like it.

Having met Kevin in person I must say he is quite the stunner. The subtle tone-on-tone stripe of the ivory casein, Ivorine, is a lovely platform for the beautiful overlay. Certainly one would be most fortunate to possess him. :cloud9:

I have read that Cassien is fragile--would this be a concern in using the pen or is modern Cassien more robust? Anyway, I am quite the fan of dragons and their mythology; I was floored to see those pens on your site!

There are some drawbacks when cassien is used for fountain pens, but other than making sure that the pen is not soaked in water, there is virtually no difference. the blind caps on one of the Dragon Pens are made of black celluloid, but both the sections are also black celluloid to prevent staining from the ink used.

Kevin sends his love BTW!

It's alright Ghost Plane, he comes from a long line of very kind natured dragons, he was very happy to stand aside, and see the progress made!

He sends his good will to you too!

Just to show I'm sorry, I'm sharing one of the worms from the bottom of the garden.

That's a pretty healthy caterpillar....I'd hate to see what it was devouring....

I am so taken with the dragon design! But how to decide between the white cassien and the black dragon? The black makes the overlay stand out more, but the subtle stripes of the ivory are very unique... Henry, I have sent an inquiry via the contact form on your web site. :)
