I'm with reprieve 110% on the red beneath overlays........... and also with Henry, gold coloured would be perfection! Is there any chance of at least trying one vermeil? Not that you aren't busy or anything Henry.......... :bunny01:

To the owner of the Waterman 20.................. Gold Stars for your patience, but someone once said that genius takes longer!! :puddle: That is one beautiful pen indeed.

Chris - thank you for hosting and posting... much appreciated.

I've said to Mr S many a time that the red / orange / mottled colour bodies under a silver overlay really work well together... which is why I love that unique Jasmin! Must do some updated pictures sometime...

Neal.

My pleasure Neal............and any chance of pics of your amazing Jasmin? :yikes:

Like I said before--dream pen!!!

Henry, is that red and black ebonite still available? What I mean is, would you be able to use it (or a similar material) for a pen with a custom overlay?

I think that there are a few rods left of the mottled hard rubber, with Conway Stewart. But I would have to check that they still may have some, I am sure that there is some still available from other sources.

I am really pleased that you like the Jasmin Pen with Mottled Hard Rubber, although I find it not as nice as plain Cardinal Red!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, it's been said. I'd rather not cover up the mottled pattern with an overlay....Henry'd rather not detract from the overlay with the mottling. Either way, I'd rather have a solid color underneath an overlay, and a patterned material fully revealed. That way both get the full attention they each deserve. Taste is purely subjective. ;)

I do have a weakness for the mottled red and black ebonites. My little collection of red ripple vintage Watermans can attest to that! :D Add in one of Henry's overlays and I'm practically in heaven! :cloud9:

I've been contemplating a certain design that I would like on a custom overlay for a while now, and I think it would look lovely over that material as I imagine it being simple, elegant, loopy, and open. I'm not quite ready to commission it (I need to save up first), but now it's definitely on my mind.

Thanks for posting those pictures of the Cardinal Red Watermans, and early Parker overlays Chris. It is particularly good that they have been shown here, because it is easier to see the quite distinct difference in the style and structure of the two company's 'Droplet' patterns.

It did take quite a lot of work to get the effect of the Parker 'style', exposing more of the 'base pen' than the metal.

Assuming that the supplier of the Red Hard Rubber is able to come up with the improved coloured rods, I know that my choice of metal colour, will be gold, [or more affordably, in 'Vermielle'!] In my opinion, Silver on Red looks rather 'washed-out!' But that is just my humble opinion!

Visitors to this thread might be pleased to know that I will be receiving some instruction in September, to learn how to 'post' images here on FPN!

Thanks Henry - for the update and your preferences re colour of base and overlay choices!

As to lessons on how to post pics here................... About bloomin' time an' all!!!! :roflmho:

Just kidding - I will feel left out and lonely when I no longer 'host and post for you all.

Now I'm off to your website to see what I can order with Cardinal and Vermeille!!!! :cloud9:

'My people' are finding out about the Red Hard Rubber rods availability!

I am really looking forward to getting some, even if it turns out that I might have to buy a large amount! [Minimum order.] Providing the colour is 'right', I will go ahead and get some!

I am quite sure that pens in this new/old colour would be very popular!

Hopefully, I should have some news in the next few days.

Well Chris, did you find 'inspiration' on my web-site?

See y'awll! :bunny01: :bunny01: :bunny01:

'My people' in 'Research and Development' have been working hard to discover which materials could be used to increase the range of the 'His Nibs' Pens.

So far, progress has been slow, due to the absence of the Red Hard Rubber! They have been experimenting with other materials, one of which has been chocolate! Strangely enough, this edible confection does behave well in the 'lathe', providing the 'machine area' is kept at very cold temperatures during manufacture! :eureka:

The down side of using chocolate however is that the pens have to be sold with a separate instruction booklet, warning that the user must wear gloves when writing, and the pen must never be placed in the 'in-breast' pocket unless the 'thermo-neutral pochette' is used! :roflmho:

One of the main drawbacks however is the habit of some writers, 'sucking' the end of the pen while deep in thought, contemplating their next few words to be written on the page!

We have found that if the blind cap at the back end of the pen is impregnated with finely ground pepper, this seems to detract the 'suckers' amongst the potential customers!!! We have had to change the wording of the guarantee statement, which points out that any replacement blind caps will only be supplied provided that the original one is still recognisable as such, we are offering 'replacement blind caps' at a quite affordable price per 1/4 lbs, they are available in 3 'strengths', med hot, v hot and 'Jalepino' pepper! We are hoping that this might lead to a considerable 'after sales' service for the pepper lovers amongst our customers! We are looking into marketing this line in the Indian community! :puddle:

I hope that this might be of interest to you Chris, and maybe help you choose the type of material used in the next pen that you order. We pride ourselves here at His Nibs Ltd, that we will strive to investigate all possibilities of the materials used in Pen manufacture, no matter how ludicrous!!!

So until news is forthcoming with regard to the availability of the red hard rubber, your inquiry will be put 'On hold' for the time being! OK? :roflmho:

I fear that the blindcap would not be the only casualty where a chocolate pen was concerned.... :puddle:

Wow................now that is a whole 'nuther world of pen making!!! Can you manage to make an eyedropper filled pen this way............then the ink could be drinkable too - no more interrupting a good writing session to raid the fridge - :roflmho:

Seriously though............... until September and classes in hosting and posting - you are in my thrall and will try your very best to keep this bunny hopping happy - not hopping mad - please??
