Careful, that's how I started - first you dream, then you begin to doodle, then you get serious about a design...and then the fun REALLY begins! :yikes:

Daximillian,

Thank you so much for your comments about your two visits to my stand at Portobello, it was a pleasure to see you on both occasions, and hand you those 'unctious' nibbed pens for you to try!

I look forward to your next visit to London.

I do hope that you have great pleasure when using the pens that you purchased.

Just back from London after buying 9 beautiful pens from Henry in Portobello Market - far more than I intended, but they are such beauties, such good writers, and were at such a decent price, that I couldn't just leave them there.

Those two trips to Henry's stall were the highlight of my trip, and I just opened a savings account for one of his gorgeous overlays. They are heavy and I have a small hand, but after seeing them again in person, I just couldn't resist. I keep dreaming of mermaids and tendrils and swirls of silver.

Ahhh! I do love to watch a person fall for something new - or old - vicariously!!! :cloud9:

Now we wait for writing samples of these nine pens please :puddle:

Did I say NINE???? :yikes:

Congratulations............. fall in a huge way!!! :clap1:

Each day is the start of the rest of your life!

Make it count!!!

I'm sorry to be the bringer of bad tidings, but Neal is 'indisposed' for another week, so there will be a few more days to wait for the images to appear here!

Sorry about that!

Normal service will be resumed as soon as possible!

Patience is a virtue of which I seem to always be found lacking....I'm a work in progress so this delay should hone me to a fine point, so to speak. :roflmho:

One is hoping with flex???? :notworthy1:

I must admit to being italic to the point of pedantic.........but with some movement at times!!

If everyone were to describe themselves as a nib type - what would you be???:yikes:

That would depend on the amount of pressure applied....

I am a cursive italic, medium with visions of broadness....what can I say. Are any of us ever satisfied?

I'm sure Henry will delight us with the details of his lovely new droplet design. And that Waterman's 20 is just beautiful. I want them both! :puddle: :puddle: :puddle:

Hi there!

I'm just back from Portobello Road.

The 'big pen' is the Waterman's 20, an original pen that was sent to me a long time ago, by a gentleman who quite obviously has an enormous capacity for patience!!! All I would like to convey to him if he is looking at this thread, is that as soon as I get the pen back from Neal, it will be winging it's way back to him! I promise!

The other overlaid pen is a 'joint effort' between myself, and another gentleman who lives in the USA, who makes pens, the colour of this one is slightly less attractive Hard Rubber than the colour that we will use for this 'run' of pens. Apparently the colour of the more recent 'Red Hard Rubber' is very close to the original Cardinal Red that Parker used in the early 1920's. I spent quite a long time trying to imitate the Droplet pattern that Parker used at that time, I chose to do this because it exposes more of the red/orange colour of the hard rubber than the Waterman's Droplet Pattern.

Personally, I think that it would look particularly good if the overlays were gold-plated, but I am something of a traditionalist, so I suppose I like that idea because it would be as near as possible to the original Parkers, in Cardinal Red.

I hope that you like them, I am very pleased with both of them, but I am probably a tad biased!

The Waterman's 20 is impressive, of course, but I love the red hard rubber overlay. It looks like there might be a blind cap... is it a button filler perhaps? I hope Henry will give us more details about when this pen will go to "production" and who the penmaker is and how to purchase it. I want one!

I really, really like overlays on top of red hard rubber or red and black mottled hard rubber; it's a striking look that isn't found very often. My favorite that I've seen is Henry's Jasmin pen in red and black mottled ebonite. That is my dream pen (but unfortunately sold out I think).

Yes, 'Reprieve' you're right, I only made one Jasmin pen in that type of Hard Rubber, and you'll never guess who decided to have it in his collection?

Neal!!!

Collaborations can bring such fabulous things to the table! The SOL pen immediately comes to mind. Can't wait to see this new endeavour unfold! :bunny01:

Chris - thank you for hosting and posting... much appreciated.

I've said to Mr S many a time that the red / orange / mottled colour bodies under a silver overlay really work well together... which is why I love that unique Jasmin! Must do some updated pictures sometime...

Neal.
