After what seems like an eternity of waiting, here are some photos of the Onoto pens ready and waiting for buyers with the greatest tastes! Photos are on behalf of Neal, known here as "bilydo" as he requested I post them for him and Henry.

You can read the story here.............click this!

Not an 'overlaid' pen person but my oh my I do admire the craftsmanship of the pens he creates.

A wise man once said    " the best revenge is wealth "   but a wiser man answered back    " the best revenge is happiness "

The true definition of madness - Doing the same thing everyday and expecting different results......

Ah!!! But the difference is you've got the Spirit of Life pen, which of course is a 'tad' longer, and a little bit bigger in the girth!!!

That reminds me, weren't you going to give everyone a written sample of your handwriting using the SOL pen? On the other thread. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to see it!

P.S.It seems that everyone here likes to look at pretty pictures! :puddle:

If only the filler mechanism were something other than a c/c.....so much beauty on such an inexpensive base....lipstick on a pig, so to speak....Does Mr. Simpole do custom work on clients' personal pens?

And to think I made the Spirit c/c so that people wouldn't have maintenance problems 50 years from now... :headsmack:

You're right. I do owe pictures and a writing sample. Hopefully going to have a little more time free soon. I know, I know, I keep saying that. But then others keep promising to stop assigning stuff to me... :bonk:

Two points here...........

1] Yes Henry has made amongst his 'bespoke' pens, [when the client has chosen to have the pen as a Button Filler,] but it really is a case of what the modern pen user wants. Henry was keen to be very 'traditionalist' when he made his first two models of pens,[namely the Snake, and the Jasmine] both as button filling mechanisms, but the problem seems to have arisen when people bought them, [and of course nobody reads any instructions nowadays! They 'ALL' know how to fill a pen, don't they??? NO they don't it seems!] from the web-site, and then complained that they had 'somehow' broken the pen,I know that two pens had to be re-assembled because the clients hadn't read the instructions! Just to prove this point, when you next encounter a Mont Blanc 146 or 149 user, ask him or her if when they fill the pen they drop 6-8 drops of ink back into the bottle when they refill their pen! I bet the answer is usually NO!!! Why? They don't read the instructions, and they probably bought their pens [not from a shop, but] on the internet! So to keep up with modern trends [and disregarding instructions!] pen makers have to go along with a fool-proof system. It's all a bit sad really, but there you are.

2]Ghost Plane, you know what they say, if you want to get something done, ask a busy person!!!

That does indeed make sense....I just am not a fan of c/c's. They don't hold enough volume and most are not the instant starters that piston and vac fillers are.

Ah well....I guess convenience over quality is what drives the market anyway, these days....Maybe I can get my hands on one of those button-fillers.

His work is absolutely the most exquisite I've seen....like watching an Italian opera....so very moving.

Thank you so much for sharing the photos and information.

But-but-but-but!!!! c/c fillers can be ED fillers with the simple operation of removing the converter and using an eyedropper! Capacity is amazing.........and I use five of Henry's overlay pens as EDs - probably everyone knows that by now  sorry!

I have several 149s and a 146 or two, and don't ever drop a few drops - but I also have no problems either - although I've probably jinxed myself now  but I'll try to remember for next time................!!!

I don't drip back either, except in a couple of Visconti with older filler systems that are finicky.

Now we're talkin'! I've not had the ED experience to date....now may be the time. Thanks Chris!

I should have made it clear that my comments about the 'average' Mont Blanc 149 owner probably doesn't know about the correct instructions for filling their pen, [it's hardly surprising BTW, it only appears in the accompanying pamphlet on page 29 or 30!!!] the difference here is that I was refering to average MB pen users, as opposed to enthusiastic 'pen people' such as FPN people, [Troglokev included amongst such people! Sorry about that Troglokev!!!]

See Yawll!
