Has Anyone Heard Of Henry Simpole?

It looks as though the 'Spirit of Life' pen has at last been given the 'Spirit of Life' and will soon become a reality! Bravo!

Oo! I like that title. :eureka: The words were originally given to a woman and are used in the sense of mankind or the human race, so it's equal opportunity. In the original Arabic, there is no gender.

It's one of those verses that grabbed me the first time I heard it and the more I hear it, the better I love it.

I'm still driving Henry nuts, but we're slowly narrowing down the possibilities back channel. :hmm1:

If you'd like to read the other verses, this is from Baha'u'llah's "Hidden Words"

I don't know about 'Hidden Words', but there seems to be a distinct lack of 'hidden photographs' from Uncle George. Come on George!!! Perhaps even Neal has something to 'post' on this thread?

  • 2 weeks later...

If anyone's seen any lungs lying about, they could well be mine. Coughing is down to occasional rattles, as opposed to sounding like a tuburcular 3 pack a day smoker.

Pen project isn't dead yet, just on hiatus until I can get enough oxygen in to function.

Question for those of you who've expressed interest in the prayer pen - The whole verse won't fit in English and even a partial looks harsh wrapped around the barrel. However, swapping to a more calligraphically friendly language such as Arabic will permit the entire verse to fit and the swooping curves of the letters aesthetically fit Henry's decoration for the cap. Think floral curves.

Without looking at drawings, does anyone have a problem with a verse pen in another language, so long as they know what it says? I'm fine, but I'd like an idea if anyone else will want one

I'm asking in here, rather than starting a general poll, as I only want opinions from those who've expressed interest in the pen.

Whatcha think?

As an addition, Henry has a friend who could engrave the English on the silver for him. Would you prefer English? If 4 of us went in together, there'd be an economy of scale. And Henry would still be putting it together, doing the decorative work, and doing the cap?

What's your input?

Billydo has asked me to try and post some photos of Henry's work - this pen is the Number 7 - and shows a couple of pics of the finished pen, and pics of designs - here we go - if the gods are with us!!!

Hi Ghost,

I actually don't mind the verse in its original language. It does have its attractiveness, especially if it's Arabic - I love the script!

BTW, I'm still interested in your pen.

Warmest regards,

Soki

Thanks! I love the flow myself. Wanted to make sure we have all the options out there. Just taking a little longer.

One of these days I'd love to make a pilgramage to Henry's and watch the whole process from start to finish. :cloud9:

Me too! I'm going to be in London early June, but only for 3 days. I will try to make it in to see him, if he's holding court :notworthy1:

Will be stopping in London twice this summer, in June and July. Both times on Saturdays. I hope to get to Henry at least on one of these days. He as well might be the reason I go to London... You guys started me with your thread. blush.gif

Take your camera, please? :notworthy1:

Back on another 10 day course of antibiotics.

Oh dear! Did your doctor send a specimen off to match for the antibiotic? Hope so!

Take care Ghost!

Hugs,

Hi Ghost Plane!

Sounds like the bug I had before and over Christmas and New Year......five weeks of misery, three courses of antibiotics. Get well soon please!!!

As to those visiting London.............I am envious, and hope you have a great time with Henry (and London) and get some photos!

Wow!!! Beautiful.

The initial post looked so unassuming but having a look at the website took my breath away.

Bespoke, silver or 18k gold inlay. Absolutely beautiful gallery.

FPN has already indirectly led to me spending way more than I should (the latest being one of Edison's creations and some Iroshizuku ink just to go with it) but at least I know that I can't afford one of Henry's beautiful bespoke gold creations... yet.

Does he plate the silver to stop it from tarnishing? I'd love to read through 35 pages but have too much work reading to do!

And hope those unwell FPN members get well soon. And the doctors are looking after you.

In Rotation: MB 146 (EF), Noodler's Ahab bumblebee, Edison Pearl (F), Sailor ProGear (N-MF)

In storage: MB 149 (18k EF), TWSBI 540 (B), ST Dupont Olympio XL (EF), MB Dumas (B stub), Waterman Preface (ST), Edison Pearl (0.5mm CI), Noodler's Ahab clear, Pilot VP (M), Danitrio Densho (F), Aurora Optima (F), Lamy 2000 (F), Visconti Homo Sapiens (stub)

Hi Tanalasta! Congratulations on your new Edison pen - I have one in the pipeline too! Iroshizuku inks are just delicious......only don't drink them, they are far too expensive - but wonderful inks!

As to Henry's pens, the silver overlay is not plated with anything, it is silver of the highest quality, and using the pen keeps it shiny and bright - not that tarnishing silver is a bad thing, sometimes it adds a look of age to things. I have four silver overlaid pens and one vermeil (the Tendril) and use them all the time. the vermeil is quite a bit heavier than the others, but I think that has as much to do with the design as to being vermeil.

I watch his site with delight, and wonder what will be produced next! :cloud9:

Have done the 3 rounds of antibiotics and into week 6. Have lab samples to turn in tomorrow and we'll then see what's what, inshallah.

Phooey! Lungs are highly over-rated, take it from me! As long as you don't want to do anything more adventurous than say, walk across a room, you hardly need them at all. Seriously though, I do find that hypoxic feverish state is a great time to go shopping...

Hope you are feeling more normal very soon, but it will take a while to get the energy levels back.
