It's very nice to think that there are people who would like to participate in a raffle of the pen, but I fear that it would be far too complicated to organise!

The first hurdle will be to find out if the Director of Clouds House is going to approve of the idea at all! For all I know, he may just scotch the idea, because it is a form of gambling, [it is a treatment centre for 'addiction', after all!] and it may be considered an inappropriate addition to the proceedings as the point of the re-union is not primarily as a fund-raising exercise.

Hopefully, the idea will be approved, and it will raise a reasonable amount of money, but we will have to wait and see!

Today, I was greeted with an E-mail from a gentleman from Switzerland who had seen me about a year ago, [and he had bought a vintage fountain pen from me] who wanted to know if I will be there on this coming Saturday.

This time, he would like to buy one of my silver overlaid pens.

So, it looks as though it will be quite a good day up at Portobello this week!

PS. Sadly, there's still no news from Clouds House, about the decision to allow the raffle!

I've just got back from Portobello Road Market, and I can honestly say that it was one of the best days that I have had this year!

First off, was the gentleman from Switzerland, along with his wife, who looked over the overlaid pens, and tried a few, to decide which nib type he wanted, and chose one of the Alphonse Mucha designs, [La Danse] He paid me by credit card, which involved my taking him up the road to see another dealer friend of mine who deals with those types of transactions for me!

By the time I returned there was another couple waiting to see me, and after a fairly long time of looking and deciding, a deal was struck, and cash was paid.

No sooner than that deal had been done, than someone else had arrived, and it was pretty well like that for the rest of the time I was there! I was talking so much that my voice started to crackle!

Needless to say that I didn't get a great deal of reading of my book done today, but the time just seemed to fly by!

'"Eric Clapton" the autobiography.'

It's a terrific book!

{I'm not usually up and about at this time in the night, but the neighbours next door are having a party, complete with some idiots with a kareoke machine blaring out such wonderous sounds like "Mama-Mia!"

I MUST be getting old!!! I've turned a few lights on in the house, made myself a mug of tea, and I suppose I will stay downstairs for a while in the hope that the noise will stop fairly soon! I can't remember the last time that I was up at this time of night! [2.45am Sunday morning!]

If it doesn't stop soon, I think that I might stay up, and do some 'finishing' of the next overlays that have been commissioned by Conway Stewart.

If you stay up...your Sunday is going to be a very tiring day. Poor Truffle....

I did indeed stay up and did some work on the overlays Esterbex, and returned to bed at about 4.30am.

I got up at about 7.00am, and after messing about on the computer for a while I have restarted the work on the overlays! [You can't keep a good man down!]

Strangely enough, I don't feel too bad due to the lack of sleep, but I might do later!

Sounds like my yesterday. Got up at 0500 to write , then ended up overeating and crashing early due to exhaustion. Worked out as it poured rain in the night, which made for intense sleeping

Sadly, the powers that be have decided that the raffle for the pen at the re-union will not be taking place, as it is considered 'inappropriate.' :(

It's a shame, but at least I tried!

I must say, I'm really looking forward to this year's party. Roll on Saturday!

It was lovely to see various colleagues down at the clouds House re-union on Saturday, and it did feel rather peculiar to not be up at Portobello market!

My very good friend Tim manned the fort for me at the market, and sold a few pens, and received a few pen repairs, which I will get to next Saturday.

I am now down in [thankfully!] sunny Cornwall, although the weather forecasters have predicted that it might get cloudy later. I have got quite a lot to do today, [most are pen related!] plus I will be off to the dentist's and the hygienist very shortly! Let's hope that they don't find anything unpleasant!

The start of a great week, I hope!

Whilst on another forum entirely unrelated to pens...I came across the Truffle's kindred...by the thousands. Who knew they

OK! Very funny! Esterbex.

I'm up early this morning, to go off to Tavistock Pannier Market, to meet up with a good friend of mine. No doubt we will talk about pens, and the state of the Antiques Trade, over breakfast.

I haven't seen him for a year, so it will be nice to 'catch up' with him.

Yesterday, I went down to the Barbican in Plymouth, to meet up with another pen enthusiast on his yacht in the marina. He ended up buying a beautiful pen-display box, which I had bought while I was in Little Rock, Arkansas earlier this year. He was delighted with it!

Well, I wonder what today will have in store?

His Lordship might take you up on that, good maid! He could use a good wenching, me thinks. ;)
