Might have some of these bills from the Writing Castle paid down by then...

I've had the pleasure of corresponding with Mr. Simpole very recently about an idea I had for a pen for that special Whovian in my life, even though that project will be a bit of a ways down the pike. Just a genuinely nice, down-to-earth gent!

I confess, when I first saw this thread, I was super intrigued ("No, I don't know who Henry Simpole is, but I'm a total FP n00b!") I'm still a newbie, but I have since informed Mr. Shadow that once I graduate from my PTA program, my fantasy grad gift is a custom Simpole pen, along with a plane ticket to London so that I can pick it up in person. (Mr. Shadow has, in return, pointed out that I'm making a pretty tall order for two people who are about to be on a single income for a few years. He is quickly talking his way out of being given a Dr. Who pen.)

As the proud instigator and owner of a Simpole that ended up being a joint effort with our own Salman Khattak and Truffle purchased by at least 22 people at last count, I can do nothing but encourage you to press on.

Ooh, which one? (I apologize--I flipped through the back pages of this thread and must have missed it somehow. I'm still dealing with a bit of a concussion, and it shows itself in the oddest ways.)

I am having the worst time trying to narrow down an idea for my own Simpole pen. I have the idea for Mr. Shadow's pen, as it would be based on a tattoo idea he's working on, so that's easy-peasy. (it's either that or a dragon, but one or the other would suit him juuuust fine.) I'm tempted to lean towards something involving bellydance...or peacocks...or cats...or a dancing Gypsy. Or a favorite tarot card? Maybe, since I'm going to school under a biology/pre-med major, something anatomical-diagram-ish? I have time, I have time...

But here's a fun game for the group:

Pretend you've won a bespoke Simpole pen of your very own, but there's some bizarre stipulation in the sweepstakes rules that you can only have one Simpole pen ever. Describe the motif you choose and why.

Here's my Spirit. On the iPad so it's a little awkward to cut & paste but this: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/153415-spirit-of-life-design-by-henry-simpole/page-23

Should get you to the pages long thread that ran for the year it took for the dream to become reality.

Hi!

I just followed the link left by Ghost Plane to the SOL pen thread, and posted something on there.

But when I looked on 'Frequently Discussed Topics' it wasn't posted or shown in the first few titles, but it used to be on that forum, where has it gone? Can anyone help?

I had a bit of a scan while I was there, it's really quite interesting to look back at the things people wrote while it was being made!

Truffle Finder! :) :excl:

Oh wow! that is just stunning! I love it.

Can I just ask, ( probably a silly question, but I am a newbie you see...well, I am trying to find a good excuse in case it is a REALLY very silly question), it looks like there is a "mini pen " in the picture just above. Is it? It is so cute!

It is "mini" indeed! It's an eyedropper Peter Pan pen by the Salzburg Bros for which Henry crafted an overlay. I think he did a dozen or so. I think that was the last one. Though I could be wrong. It was orginally worn 'round the neck by a satin ribbon.

Here's a video of a red one...http://youtu.be/b-pfIh2HM4k

Edit to add: There are no silly questions....ever! ;)

Ghost Plane and Esterbex, those Spirits are BEAUTIFUL. And Esterbex, I love the pen roll! (I actually made a few zafu cushions out of the same fabric at one point...) Now I have to get the sewing machine and pattern paper out and see what I can do with pen rollies, to make to sell to fund my grail pen!

Now there's an idea...have a grail pen...with an overlay design of a grail on it!

Mrs Shadow....I think you're on to something! That pen wrap/roll was a gift from a most beloved friend also here on

FPN and a great collector of Simpoles...and various and sundry other pens. :puddle:

Hmmmmmm...although my machine will not handle actual suede, it will handle synthetic...and polarfleece...I've got a stock of pillows I need to get done, but I think I can keep a yard or two to the side for experimentation!

Hmmmm. A cut out of a grail and what else? Something vaguely Pre-Raphaelite in the manner of a hand draped in samite rising from the lake grasping Excalibur?

Listen, strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for an overlay.
