Has Anyone Heard Of Henry Simpole?

I'm back from a rather blustery day up at Portobello Road Market.

Other than a few pen repairs that were picked up by their owners, sales seemed to have been a bit few and far between! But, the positive news that I have is that I was offered a large number of Mont Blanc F Pens and ball-points, as well as a couple of propelling pencils, [all of them Mont Blancs varying in age from about the 1950's through to present models], I made an offer for them all, and a deal was struck.

Then another couple turned up, with a French Watermans Edson, and a very attractive Cartier Fountain Pen, with a red enamel finish, which I also bought.

Sunday looks as though I will be quite a busy bee, getting them all done, and ready to be sent down to my Unit at an Antiques Centre in the West Country! I am just so well stocked with Mont Blancs at the moment, no bad thing really, because there's no getting away from it, they do sell! They must be the best 'marketed' pens in the world!

A very good collector friend of mine [ben] came to visit me during the course of the day, and before I knew it, we had 'chewed the fat' for nearly two hours! It was good to see him again after so long. I think that he was quite impressed when I showed him my latest addition to my 'Pension Scheme', namely the doll's house pen!

All in all, it was a great day!

As I expected, I spent quite a while yesterday working on the MB pens, getting them ready to send off down to my Unit in the Antiques Centre in Plymouth. I'm pleased to say, that they are all done, and packed up ready to go to the Post Office. A very satisfying day's work, I think!

Today, I will continue working on a 'commissioned' design overlay that I am finding is proving to be more complex than I had previously thought! When I have done the 'piercing out', I will be sending it off to Neal who has agreed to do the photography, so hopefully he will be able to post some images on this thread fairly soon. [but I will have to ask for permission to do so before that happens!]

Back to work! Busy day ahead!

Compliments indeed!

From an 'Ex-guitar playing' Daft-Vader!!!

Have we met at some point? At a Pen Show perhaps, or at Portobello Market, if we did meet, I'm sure that I would have recognised your heavy breathing!!! But I'm sure that your head-gear would have given the game away!

Thank you very much for the compliment anyway.

BTW, how are things on the 'Death Star?'

I thought there were two.....

Anyway, welcome Lord Rdx! And a fine day it will be, too, good sir! A fine day indeed!

So, does that mean that there were two Daft Vaders too? :yikes:

"Holly Smoke Batman, what shall we do about it?"

"On this occasion Robin, we will do absolutely nothing!!! The death Stars are far too far away to harm Gotham City, and even if they did try anything, they would probably be too confused by the number of weird criminals, dressed in very odd outfits, and crazy face-makeup, I'm quite sure that that would be enough to put them off!" -_- :excl:

Saved again by the resident 'Super Heroes'!!!

"Thank you Batman!"

Well, in addition to the two Deathstars seen in the movies, there was, a Deathstar prototype, a Superlaser prototype, a copy of the first Deathstar made by a post-Imperial warlord, and finally minimalist superlaser made by a Hutt crimelord.

Well neither did I! I guess reading the books would have rounded out my education.

Hello!

It has been a long time so I thought I would let you know how the engraving on pens is going.

The lady has decided to go with a peacock/peacock feathers theme for the design. I think that at this stage, I will not have any fretting work. I love piercing and am a great admirer's of Henry's skills, but I am afraid that I am too unexperienced to go down that route now.

So the pen will be engraved and that is all!

I have also been working on knives and other bits and pieces unrelated to gun work. Lots of new materials to try..

I will leave you with a picture of a partridge i engraved at the end of last year. It was done after a drawing by wildlife artist Jonathan Pointer. It is 2.2 cm high.

PS: Errrr, I just can't post the picture for some reason. Technology and me, hey! no wonder I work with gravers...

you can see the partridge in my blog though! http://katiafilipovicengraver.blogspot.co.uk/2014/01/engraving-of-partridge-in-flight.html

It'll get easier when you have 30 posts. Anti spam safeguards in the board software & all that.

Good work!

Katia,

You've come back!

That is truly beautiful engraving, I'm quite envious of your work!

Let me know when you would like me to do the work on your commissioned overlay when you have completed it.

Happy New Year!

Well neither did I! I guess reading the books would have rounded out my education.

A few of the books are really good, but many aren't worth reading. To be honest, I recalled reading about the Deathstar prototype and the Darksabre, and while confirming my memory stumbled upon the others.

Sorry to change the subject!

Yesterday up at Portobello Road, was quite good really.

A couple came to see me about some vintage pens that thankfully I had in stock, I guessed that they had a pen shop [as it turned out] in Hong Kong, so I quite rightly assumed that they were planning to re-sell the pens that they selected. They ended up with two Ciselle Patterned Parker 75 sets [ball Points and Fountain Pens], and a couple of 'Big Red Senior Parker Duofolds'.

Anyway, after a little bit of bargaining, we agreed on a price for the lot, and we were mutually satisfied with the transaction, [well I certainly was, and I think that they were as well!] :P

On Friday, I went up to Hatton Garden to pick up the Onoto overlays from the Caster's. They have ordered 30 of this design to be done to start with, so I will be quite a busy bee for the next week or so! 30 caps and 30 barrels doesn't sound a lot, but I can assure you there is a great of 'finishing' to do!

Well, the quicker I get started the quicker they will be done! :P

News update:- The overlays for the gentleman from Hong Kong, [commissioned a few months ago], are at last 'pierced out', and are due to be sent off to Neal for photography next week, so hopefully some images will be appearing here soon. :D

Hi Henry!

Happy New year to you too. Thanks for your kind words. I am also completely envious of your piercing skills. It would take me forever to pierce the intricate designs that you do!

I have been working on a lot of different metals lately. I was very excited to be working on a set of knives and got carried away. I decided to engrave ravens ( yes, very dark so time consuming) and the night time...D'ho!!!

It will look fine but you can imagine, it is taking me...forever!

Anyway, I am looking forwards to meeting you again Henry and hopefully see your workshop one day!!!
