Has Anyone Heard Of Henry Simpole?

Ooh, on my lunch break and reading this thread. Thanks very much for the kind words, I am red as a tomato now!

The funny thing is in the past few months, I have been contacted by many different trades than the gun trade and I must say I would not be surprised if I were to find myself working a lot less on guns quite soon.

I will engrave a knife for an American company in january ( William Henry), then there is a company in London who wants me to engrave bespoke scratchplates for guitars,( they contacted me last week as well!) watchmakers...

I think that pretty soon my gunengraving.co.uk website will need to change to " anythingmetalengraving.co.uk"!

And yes, I will keep you posted on the pen front.

I'm thinking a Katia Kuff (bracelet) until we can settle on a pen motif. You can thank me for the brand name later. (Grin)

Hmmmm...I could go for that.....

@KatiaF and Truffle....Is pewter a workable metal as far as engraving and overlay making are concerned?

I'm having an Hobbit obsession claim my senses at the moment and wouldn't mind a Thranduil and/or Legolas-themed

piece in my hands to fondle....

Sorry to shatter your dreams Esterbex, but no, pewter would not be easy to 'join' after being curled, so it couldn't be made into an overlay for a pen. :(

I'm sure that it would be easy to engrave though I've never tried to do it, I should imagine it would behave like butter! :) :excl:

Back to the drawing board I think!

esterbex!!!!

I met a man at one of our local Sunday markets a couple of weeks ago - and what attracted me was his pewter letter openers etc., so we got talking about fountain pens - he was so surprised to hear they were still being used.....and I'll see him this Sunday so can see if he has a little sword!!

Speaking of knife makers - one master lives in the bush near here in Tasmania - I saw him on a TV show about the famous Japanese chef Tetsuya........ http://www.australiantraveller.com/tas/tetsuyas-secret-weapon/

and he is making me a knife after I tracked him down via the intergoogle - and in about a week it will be ready and we'll go and meet him and collect my knife - I'm so excited!!! :yikes: :bunny01: :notworthy1:  :puddle:

Each day is the start of the rest of your life!

Whilst I realise that this is a topic which is not remotely connected with fountain pens, but a couple of night's ago, there was a documentary called 'Reviewing the Situation', telling the life story of Lionel Bart, which I watched at the time, and was quite 'moved' by it.

A very good friend sent me a copy, and I watched the whole thing again this morning, and it had a similar effect on me for the second time round!

I was very fortunate to have first met him during the 1980's, and at that time he was in a terrible state, a broken man, seemingly irredeemably suffering from years of drink and drug abuse. We became quite good friends during that time when I first knew him, and when I moved to Clapham in London to work, I used to see him quite frequently, and it was so wonderful to see how much he had improved, directly as a result of his sobriety. Almost always cheerful, and incredibly witty, and he looked in great health.

In 1999, he died, and I was very sad, and although I did enjoy the film about him the other night, [and again this morning] it was very moving.

I just wanted to share that.

Let's not forget David Broadwell, who is both a knife maker and a pen maker.

Thanks for sharing. His songs for Oliver were...well, timeless.

I normally have left my booth at Portobello by about 2.00pm or sometimes 2.30pm, but today at approximately 2.30pm Katia turned up as a surprise!

We had been talking for about an hour or more when I realised that it was nearly 4.00pm, so I had to bid my farewells and return home.

It was lovely to meet her, for the first time, and I was able to show her some of my pen overlay designs.

It been quite a busy day for me anyway, and I had been talking quite a bit as the different customers had come to my stand, but I am absolutely shattered now, it has been a very long day! Maybe I'm just getting old!

Very satisfying day though, particularly meeting Katia for the first time! :)

Have torn a page out of a magazine showing a fabulous inlay design & wondering if one of you can make a variant when I'm solvent again. Have to watch out for ideas that catch my fancy. They become expensive!

Got to find a scanner. House is all uprooted & discombobulated as I sold a few bits & bobs to pay for other bits & bobs. Until the debris settles, functionality is nil. Whimper!
