Chapter two: 'The mysterious Package!'

Despite the rather hot weather, I awoke this morning quite refreshed, and came downstairs and made myself a lovely cup of tea. My mind kept on thinking about why the response to my E-mail was just a rather curt reply:- "I do not know what you are talking about!"

So, having done the weekly 'big shop', I decided to write a second E-mail to the person who's name appeared on the parcel which had arrived nearly two months ago.

I have just pressed the 'Send-button', so now all I have to do, is wait!

We'll see!

I can only think that the person who is in charge of the computer [in the household from whence the parcel came] has had very limited communications with the person who owns the pens! Very strange! Even stranger, is why didn't the sender think to enclose a note stating what she wanted me to do with the pens!

I'll keep you posted!

Thats a rather odd thing to happen, really curious to find out how and what haha!
Maybe this was some kind of idea to surprise someone, but the surprise was a little bit too surprising. I also really wonder why someone would reply in such a way...

Rather a disappointing day today, I only sold one pen, and was only offered to buy one!

This probably sounds like a very uneventful day, but in fact the pen that I was offered, was a Conway Stewart Executive 60, in Cracked Ice, with the Duro Nib, and in nearly Mint Condition, so it was well worth getting up for this morning!

Up early again tomorrow morning, to drive down to Cornwall again, it's the usual things, the Dentist, an overdue eye test, and the car is going in for a full service.

Nowadays, I sometimes wish that I could book 'myself' in for a full service!!! :)   :excl:

I wouldn't mind an overhaul myself. Kudos on the 60 acquisition! For sale or for retirement?

Safe travels and sunshine to you. :happyberet:

After an early start this morning, I'm back down in Cornwall.

I stopped off at Tavistock Antiques Fair in the Town Hall, and had a mousey around, and found two vintage fountain pens, one was a No: 12 Watermans Eye-dropper, [very plain BHR] but with a very nice nib, and the other one was a wannabe Parker Jade Duofold Jnr, strangely with a quite old Conway Stewart gold nib in it!

Anyway, they will both look pretty good by the time I get back to the workshop.

Just to keep you up to date, tomorrow morning I will be up at the crack of a sparrow's chirp, to meet my friend at the Tavistock Antiques and Collectables Market in the Pannier Market. I doubt if there will be any pens of any consequence but you never know, my friend may have found some last Sunday morning when he went looking for them at a quite big flea market. I hope that he's kept them for me, if he did find some!

Oh Henry! We could see the entrance to the Pannier Market from our bedroom windows just a few weeks ago!!! :crybaby:

I hope your friend and you find something amazing - hidden just for you!

Drive safely when you return to London - tourists will be everywhere now that school holidays are happening :gaah: :notworthy1: :headsmack:

BTW I'm loving the new Onoto and the fixed 'Seal' pen! I've also inked the doc's pen just to see how it writes.....he doesn't know yet that it is here......so call me 'foster user'!!!!

Each day is the start of the rest of your life!

Make it count!!!

No luck down at the Pannier Market this morning I'm afraid.

Still, it was very nice to see my mate Derrick, we went and had breakfast at Morrisons, and that was delicious! And a good 'chin-wag' afterwards!

I'm off to Plymouth later, to see if anything has moved at the Antiques Centre, and put some more stock in there.

Phillipe Peeters has sent me an E-mail!!!

Fortunately, [i assume] they had seen the thread on the Frequently Discussed Topics, and decided to contact me!

Anyway, drama over!

Since I last posted something on here, I have had a few E-mails from Phillippe, and it seems that they are happy with me proceeding with the repair of both the pens that had been sent.

In the meantime, I have been working on a copy of a very old Onoto overlay from about 1900/05, it is a beautiful design, but very complicated, so I'm having to take great care in doing it.

When I have done it, I will be sending the flat silver pieces to Neal for his photographic magic, before doing the 'finishing', so it shouldn't be long now!

Whilst I can well understand the need for security on this [or indeed any other network] I am amazed at how complicated it is to 'sign-in' after just a day or two away from the FPN!

I popped on here yesterday, only to discover that I needed to 'sign-in' again, and when I tried to do so, either my username, or my password was apparently wrong! So, I went through the procedure to rectify the 'mistake', only to find that I had been given another password, which resembled something from the Nasa Space Project's data system! [a whole string of numbers, and letters!] which I copied out, and then transferred to the form which I was asked to complete. I did this, and was pleased to find that I had been admitted into the hallowed ground of this thread!!!

At some point in the procedure, I was told that I could change my password by going to my CP [whatever that refers to!] I did that, and had to go through the whole thing again!

It told me that either my user name, or my password was incorrect!!!!

Great system!

I am the first to admit that I am a real dunce when it comes to computers, but wouldn't it be possible to employ a simpler system? Please?

In your case Truffle, I am sure it's all your fault! :-D

I go!

I come back!!!

I was surprised to find that when I got back here, guess what? I needed to sign back in again!

I did it, [with the new password, well actually the old one that I changed it to, which apparently I had got wrong!] And I'm signed in again!!!

Wonders shall never cease!

Thank goodness!

I don't know about the comfy chair!

But yesterday's Portobello, was a terrific day!

It kicked off with my friend from Alabama, USA, who looked over my pens [vintage] and picked two Parker Duofolds. Next to arrive was a collector friend, who dropped off two pens for repair. The next person to come to my booth, was a young lady from Israel, who chose two Parker Vacumatics, and just before we concluded the deal, I decided to check that they were both working properly [using water] and embarrassingly enough neither were working properly!!! Thankfully, she was very understanding, and she accepted my suggestion that I would fix them this weekend, and send them to her hotel tomorrow. I am pleased to say that I have completed the work, and they will be in the Post by tomorrow , midday!

My time up at Portobello was taken up fairly continuously by customers from all over the world, including S.Korea, and a very pleasant couple from Pensilvania, who wanted to buy a pen to celebrate both their graduations from College, in the end they chose a Parker 51, and a Watermans CF.

The afternoon, was nicely rounded off by two different gentlemen, one of whom decided to buy himself a bespoke patterned silver overlay pen, with the 'GI-Gi' design. When we were making our way to sort the Credit Card transaction, he asked me if I could handle a commission to make 50 half 'overlay pens' for his company. It's early days yet, but it will be quite a nice deal if it comes to fruition.

Later on in the afternoon, another gentleman came to see me, he lives in Dubai, and he was looking for a similar number of pens, which he is planning to market over there!

Last night, I received an E-mail from the first gentleman, but nothing yet from the second gentleman, but it is early days yet! All very promising though!
