Has Anyone Heard Of Henry Simpole?

Here you go folks.... the Deco-Lady design prototype, from the original material of a toy, to the sketch stage, traced and cut onto sheet silver, and finally a curled and soldered cap.

Not only have I heard of Henry Simpole, but I've now heard (and seen) him in real life, and can confirm he is as friendly as this thread suggests :)

I had a spare Saturday, so decided to amble over to Portobello Road Market - which, despite being a Londoner, and liking nosing in antique / junk shops / markets, have never been to before. It's in a strange foreign part of London, out West...

Foolishly I only took the pen along that I was looking for a part for, and not any of the others, so now I need to go along again to share my finds and hopefully learn more about them - it's very nice to meet someone who's happy to talk pens, and share their knowledge! I love the internet, but it's not a patch on actually chatting with a real human being!

Thank you once again Neal!!! Wonderful photos and of course Henry has done it again.........pulled another Lady - out of the cybernet - hehehe!

I am so jealous of 'inkysloth' for being able to wander over to Portobello Road - but I'll pop in on the 15th if at all able to.....that means able to....put one foot in front of the other!!! Just the Saturday after next - can you believe it????

Hugs to all - GP. Esterbex et al!!!!

Hi there!

I've noticed, since this thread was transferred into this Forum, from the 'Frequently Discussed Topics' one, that there are obviously many people who 'touch base' here to see what's going on, and being shown pictures, or comments made, and on occasions when I have looked at the people 'looking' at this thread that there are as many as 12 'viewers' here, 'just looking'!

All I wanted to say, is that it would be lovely if some of you 'lookers' joined in, and maybe even said something about what you have been looking at!

Nobody is likely to bite your heads off, I can assure you!!!

Why not dip your toes in the water? Most of us are addicted to pens, and most seem to have a great sense of humour, so, go on, give it a try!

As a frequent visitor to this site may I ask what is "GP?"

Just returned from lunch with Henry.

Got my pen back and showed him how to make donations to the FPN.

Quite a successful day really :)

As George has quite rightly just stated, he helped me make a donation to FPN, using my Paypal account!

It didn't actually dawn on me until he [George] explained to me that there were three different tiers of entitlement with regards to the amount that could be paid in! So, I made the decision that as I wasn't likely to want to advertise anything on FPN, that I would just make a donation.

I hope that that might clarify the fact that, from the very beginning of this thread, I have never thought of it as anything more than a 'blog' to show people who were interested, to come and have a look at what I had been doing regarding the pens that I make.

Ever since I made my first attempts at making overlays for pens, I have been incredibly proud of them, and as time has gone on, and I became better at making them, then I realised that people generally found that they appreciated the work that went into making them. I doubt very much if I will ever make a fortune at doing what has become my profession, but for as long as people continue to enjoy them then I will keep on producing them. Believe it or not, I do not do what I do for monetary gain, I do it because I love doing it. This might be hard for some sceptics to believe, but it is true.

Doh, guess it was too early in the AM for me to connect the dots.

George, I think that Henry is an excellent example of the type of FPN member whose existence and participation here is what makes a fantastic community... and draws many many people to FPN. This is exactly the type of thing that FPN should want and encourage.

People like Henry, as he said, doesn't do this for the money. He might well sell his overlay work, and he might restore pens that he sells in-person on Saturday mornings, but he doesn't seem to sell pens on FPN. But he and his work are of great interest to everyone here -- not in Market Watch, but "here" as in FPN.

I couldn't agree with you more tenney - considering that I started this thread in October 2009, and it is still going, goes to prove what you have said.
