Has Anyone Heard Of Henry Simpole?

Oh my goodness! Such gorgeousness!!! Henry, Neal, and even George (serving as the muse) can take proud credit for creating and displaying this beauty. I am indeed jealous of every aspect....the thought, the gifting, the using....Oh the using! :puddle:

I do pray that you won't leave us languishing too long for the story behind the particulars... ;)

Good job everyone!!!! :bunny01:

Well I was wondering if and when....Funny thing....as I had previously posted in what appears to have been in the midst of the move...I started off in the "Frequently...." and landed in the Market Watch". Was dizzying at first, but I found my feet.

ETA: O I C....we're in both to help transition...novel idea! I was thoroughly confused for a bit....some would say that's my normal state....

What is going on here!

Been away for a while and the whole thing seems to have been shot to pieces.

This topic has been bouncing back and forth between here and Market Watch ???????? - don't know who thought that it should be in Market Watch - perhaps one of the moderators can tell us.

It would also appear that the number of people who have read this topic has reverted to zero!

:wallbash:

It would also seem that this topic doesn't "bump" to the top of the list after a fresh posting is made -

It bumps GWP, just in the Market Watch Forum, no longer in "Frequently....", formerly "Writing Instruments". Sort of like Dr. Who's travels/travails through the universe....

And whilst I'm not a mod, I can confidently say that within the "New FPN" guidelines, Market Watch is where this thread has been sorted and will stay. Change may be difficult

for some, but change it must...and has.

Yep!

I asked 'wimg' and was told that it is actually getting more viewings in MW than it did previously - and I've tried to explain to Henry that the new FPN rules insist it must stay here. Maybe Henry and Wim could get together via cyberworld and discuss this? Can GP help?

Now I'm going to have breakfast and coffee - maybe I'll make sense after that?

The poor Truffle is on a boat in a certain river in Egypt at the moment....He'll come to port eventually. In the mean time we'll wave from the shore. Will someone pass the Bloody Mary's this way? And could you tilt that umbrella a bit? The sun's in my eyes..... B)

Yea...right there. ;)

Yes, I worked out what was happening. I made my posts in the "Frequently...." and saw that nothing had happened to move it up - than discovered that the posts appeared in the topic in "Market Watch". I had always thought that when a thread was moved it was moved "in toto" and disappeared from the original forum - that is what caused my confusion.

While I understand that the topic doesn't really fit with the new "Frequently.." forum, according to the rules of content in that forum, I also think that it doesn't fit in the "Market Watch" forum, according to its rules of content, either.

I have sent a PM to Carrie, who is a moderator on both forums asking her about this, but she has not come back to me yet. I don't think that we will be able to do anything about it - also, looking through the content rules of everything else, I can't see where this topic would most properly fit. I am thinking that it was put in Market Watch because they didn't know where else to put it.

If I may answer publicly what I know has been said privately to some of you:

This thread has turned into a blatant 'Henry Simpole' sales thread where new pens are advertised, drooled over at length, photographed and given serious advertising bandwidth.

There is nothing whatsoever wrong with that. However, the fact it has turned into such a sales thread has made a number of the moderators - myself included - uncomfortable that the thread was not in Market Watch for the last year or so. When we had to slighty commercialise the site by asking sellers to contribute to the payment of the site, the final impetus was made to bump the site into Market Watch.

To lend credence to my assertion that this is now an advertising thread, I would be hard pressed to believe anyone who claimed billydo's photo's of GWP's pen are not advertising for Henry's pens. Especially as it appears GWP was not aware billydo had the pen...

So, this is a majority advertising thread. Other advertisers pay a contibution to their advertising by having premium accounts and get some slight priviledges. Henry, on the other hand, gets other people to post for him. That is a fine, if slightly, 'sideways?' way to avoid being asked to contribute to the cost running of FPN and getting your wares advertised. Having met Henry at the London Pen show a couple of years ago, I am certain Henry is savvy enough to be able to operate FPN in the same way as any other seller - should he choose to. And I feel he chooses not to.

Well, that's as may be. As Henry isn't a premium account holder, it couldn't go into 'The Mall', so it has to be Market Watch.

Regards,

Richard.

Hi Richard

Thanks for your informative post.

I had come to a similar conclusion for the reason behind the move, especially after exchanging PMs with Carrie, and don't really have an issue with it.

I would point out, however, that I did know that Neal had my pen and was photographing it.

My comment "So that's where my pen went!" was meant to be jocular - in fact, I took the pen over to Henry for the specific purpose of having Neal photograph it. I can assure you that I would not have let it out of my hands without knowing where it was going to be at all times, being that it is such a personal and valued gift from my wife, not to mention its monetary value.

I also know that others on this thread understand the reasons for the move and it was not my intention to make this a contentious issue, I was just a little confused after being off the FPN for several months.

So, I think that this matter can be left to rest peacefully now.

I have read with interest the comments raised by Richerd, it was nice to have some kind of explanation with regard to why exactly the thread had been moved. At first, I must admit, that I felt as though I was being punished for some mis-deed that I had inadvertently done, but I don't feel that way now, I'm pleased to say.

I would be only too pleased to make a donation to the FPN, but [and I'm sure that there would be many reading this who will find it hard to believe,] but I do not know how to conduct a credit card transaction online, or for that matter, how to transfer money from my Paypal Account! Simply because I have never had reason to do so! I'm pleased to say that George is coming over on Wednesday for lunch at a local fish restaurant, and I'm sure that he will be able to guide me through the procedure!

I think that it is only fair to point out that Billydo is a personal friend who I first met at an antiques fair nearly 20 years ago, [he has been collecting vintage fountain pens for longer than that] and later on when I started making overlaid pens, he volunteered to photograph them for me, in fact, it was only after he kept on telling me that I ought to get a Web-site that I decided to do so, because he offered to set it up for me! I just feel that I would like to point out that as incredible as it may seem, his participation on this thread has been done as a friend of mine. Apart from the fact that [and some people may not have noticed this,] I have never Posted a single picture on this thread before.............. simply because I do not know how to!!!

Billydo, is now a full-time professional photographer, but that is a recent development in his working career, up until recently, he was in full-time employment and photography was just his hobby, and very much like my situation, his hobby has 'evolved' to become his profession! I just want to dispel the idea that I get others to post things on the thread on my behalf [other than the simple fact that I am unaware of how to post pictures!]

I have visited the 'Mall' forum, and I must say, it does look very good, so providing George helps me to make the payment on Wednesday, perhaps this thread will make it's debut on that 'Hallowed Forum', sometime after that!

I would also like to thank everyone who has contributed things on this thread, [more often than not 'Pen Related', but not always, the Spanish Inquisition springs to mind!] and I hope that people have enjoyed reading it as indeed I have. I like to think that it is a place where 'like-minded' people can indulge in their hobby, interspersed with humour from time to time!!!

Once you're set up, you'll like technology, not to mention finding your income growing by leaps and bounds once you make it easy for people to shove money your way in return for pens.

My author buddies found a firm this side of the pond that acts as a part time personal assistant for tech matters. I suspect there are similar entities your side of the water. It will free you up to acquire and create.

Having received the Clouds House base-pens in the post yesterday, I have made two complete pens up and sent them off to Neal for photography magic!

I must admit, I can't wait to go to the re-union, at the end of June, to meet everyone there, and to give them the first two pens.
