Yesterday was a really good day, up at Portobello Market, one of my silver overlays was sold, and several vintage pens were purchased by customers old and new. I bought some quite unusual old pens which were offered to me by two dealer/collectors, so it turned out to be a very satisfying day yesterday, we exchanged pens for pens in both cases, which is usually a good way to do business, I think.

Thankfully the tube was running better than last week, so, I was back home by about 4.30pm.

Didn't read very much of my book though!

Was last weekend in London. Did a quick trip to the Portobello Road market as this is my traditional Saturday event when I am in London. In the second arcade I went I stumbled over Henry. For me he was just somewhere over the channel. Didn't know he was so easy to meet. Anyway, we had a nice chat and I have now four vintage pens more. Thanks!

Thank you for visiting here, on this thread Cepasaccus!

It was my pleasure to meet you just over a week ago. I am very pleased that you found several Vintage fountain pens amongst my stock, which you decided to purchase.

If you are still in mind to go ahead with the idea that you asked me about, then perhaps you would care to send me a personal message, and I will get back to you. Any suggestions from you regarding the 'subject' would point me in the right direction, if you know what I mean!

Great news! We appear to have gone through the 77,000 views mark!!! :o :yikes:

I have overcome my fear of sending you a private message 'Cepasaccus', and I hope that it has reached you alright!

Hopefully we can communicate in a more familiar manner now!

Quite a busy day today, repairs to do, overlays to work on, people to meet, supper to cook.................

So much to do, so little time!!!

Supper to cook.... :puddle:

I guess it's all gone now.... But whilst we're on the subject of hunger....

Any new pics on the way of the new designs? I can't wait to see the new deco lady...

BTW, what ever happened to the "Risque Lady"? Has she too been relegated to some dark

dusty corner only to be rescued in some future semi-millenial root-about?

Has Conway Stewart said anything regarding re-issue of the Henry Simpole design

on top of that lovely purply-pinkly marbly resin?

I guess I need to get a bite to eat....I'm getting all out of sorts from hunger pangs....

Chris, your iPad incompatibility is for wimg or other moderator to sort out. I've seen other iPad users with issues since the "upgrade". I don't know if there are settings on the iPad that need changing or what, but PM one or another and see if they can help. I felt lost without the emotrons as the Truffle calls them at times. Glad the Mac OS works with the changes.

Hi EsterBex! Thanks for your advice.......and to urging me to contact someone in the know!!

I've just sent a message to Wimg - detailing my problem, and hopefully he will put my mind at rest - if it is due to the recent rebuilding of FPN I can live with that - if can tell me how to change settings on my iPad/iPod I'll be over the moon..........but if he ignores or tells me he can't help I will have to go down to the bottom of the garden and eat worms.

In the meantime - any now photos of lovely overlays yet Henry?

Guess who watched "Notting Hill" last night and saw a glimpse of the Admiral Vernon Arcade frontage???

Let me guess!

You did!!!

I don't suppose you saw a good looking chap, walking along the street outside the Admiral Vernon Arcade, wearing a pillar-box red jacket?

No, don't go looking for it, I didn't get to appear in the opening shot of the film, despite walking backwards and forwards, in the camera's field of view, on that particular Saturday when they were filming!

Such is life!!!

More picture-candy for you. This is the previously unseen bespoke commission for George, creator of this thread, the GWP pen.

There are many personal elements within the design of this pen, I'll have to leave it for either Henry or George to cover off the details. What a design though, so many elements all working together, a really personal pen.

A few more pictures will also appear on Henry's website soon.

Enjoy!

Hi there!

Whilst I realise that 'possibly' GWP might make an appearance here!!!

Perhaps I can explain a bit more fully.

There are three dates, and three pairs of initials in groups on the cap-overlay, plus the 'all-seeing eye' motif used by the Bob Dylan fraternity, so I'm told.

On the barrel overlay, there is an image of the Route 66 road sign, and the name of a town in Italy, [i believe], also a cartouche.

It is without a doubt, the most complex design that I have done so far, for a commissioned 'bespoke' pen.

When 'GWP' brought the pen over to leave with me, in order that I could send it on to Neal for his amazing photography, I stopped to look at it again [after several months since I had completed the pen] and I remember being quite surprised at the degree of intricacy, and complexity of the work done on the pen.

Needless for me to say that I am incredibly proud of this one!

So, that is where my pen went!

Let me have it back - I miss it.

What can I say, the photography by Neal is amazing and really shows the pen off at its best, but I am sure that he won't mind me saying that "in the flesh" the pen just fills the eye better than the photographs can relate.

I have just been on the telephone to Henry and have logged on to FPN while talking with him - I was just telling him what a wonderful job Neal has done with the photography - excellent work Neal, thank you very much.

If anyone is interested, I can explain the design. Let me know if you want to know what it is all about.

I suppose I should put up a writing sample too - once I get it back. Just look at that nib, aren't you jealous - I know that some of you will be.

Enjoy the pictures - best wishes to everyone and my apologies for being so absent so such a long time.

George

Welcome back George!!! :W2FPN:

Your pen is indeed intricate and beautiful.....and drool-worthy :puddle:

I would love to hear the story of your pen, it sounds like a lot of deep thought went into this dsign - and the test it put Henry to.... :ninja:

As you can see, everyone who has seen my torment for lack of emoticons while using my Apple toys - but the drought is over, Wimg and Perry have evolved a system that works, as you can ee!  :cloud9:

Thanks for your kind words Henry and George. You have both created a very special pen... :yikes:

Neal.

Thanks Neal,

I would love to take some credit for the pen, but it would be very churlish of me to do so.

Other than being the recipient, I had absolutely nothing to do with this amazing piece.

The original concept came from my wife, she commissioned the pen from Henry as a gift for me.

Susan was the one who decided on the theme and content, being memorable occasions during my life / our lives together. She gave her ideas to Henry, who worked his magic by weaving them into the most glorious design for the overlay. Susan (my wife) made many visits to Henry during the design stage and they were working on it for almost the whole of last year on an "on and off" basis. She had given Henry almost a full year's notice so that he had plenty of time to do his wizardry without too much impact on his other commitments. I would add that this was all done without my knowledge and I never suspected any of this. So it came as a huge surprise when she presented it to me on my birthday.

I hope that you are well and glad to see that you have your emoticons back

I have only been making flying visits to FPN for quite some time now and the whole thing has changed since the last time I was on. Trying to get to grips with the new look etc..

The pen really is wonderful and it writes like a dream - as I said earlier, I will put up a writing sample once it comes back from Neal.
