Has Anyone Heard Of Henry Simpole?

My friend Lionel is back from his holidays in India, and I phoned him yesterday to ask about the overlay castings for the Onoto Mammoth Pen, so I'm expecting him to contact me today to find out if they are ready for collection.

It will be so nice to have a few completed pens to show at the London Pen Show.

{BTW Ghost Plane, the proposed Eros and Psyche pen hasn't got silver and gold woven into the design!]

I've been working on the Onoto overlays for the last couple of days, the problem is that the design is rather more complex than usual, and as a consequence each one takes a considerable time to 'clean up'. There are two little letter 'e's' which have to be 'drilled out' on most of the casts, unfortunately, one doesn't know about these sort of inherent problems until the casting has been done!

'Hindsight' is an amazing thing!

All being well, they should be done in time for the London Pen Show.

Well, years ago, I used to use a pneumatic drill, that I found at the side of the road, but I now use a very small one which is a bit like you would see a dentist use. The bigger drill used to make so much noise, and the generator caused the neighbours to complain! ;)

Oh Dear! bunny01.gif

Too much excitement in the pen department, as I look forward to my black 'Corpole' flying to me soon, already we are hearing of the next pen run being close to completion! puddle.gif puddle.gif puddle.gif

Not that I'm complaining, rather the reverse. Has anyone else ordered an Onoto yet? yikes.gif

Hello again!

I'm very pleased to say that Portobello has perked up in comparison to the last few weeks, things weren't exactly brisk trading wise, but I didn't manage to read a great deal of my book during the course of the day!

I was offered a few quite nice vintage pens:-

Conway Stewart No1209, nearly mint condition, with two broad 18ct gold bands on the barrel.

An Onoto plunger filler, in bronze spaghetti pattern [ink visible] plastic, no:3 nib.

A Wyvern King George [sixth?] jubilee button filler, with the royal insignia engraved on the cap.

I am pleased to say, that they have all been restored to their former glory, and are waiting to go into stock for next week, at Portobello.

Seey'awll!

I'm awfully sorry Ghost Plane, photographs are not in my remit!

As I said before, it is a button filler, but I think that it is very unlikely that it would suit your idea of a great pen, you having a thing about broad and stub nibs! This one's nib is shaped just like a Parker 51 nib, [cylindrical] but on this pen it is exposed as opposed to being hooded! It definitely is not flexible! :crybaby: Sorry!

It's about the same size as a Parker 51.

Oh dear!embarrassed_smile.gif

The failings of my knowledge of my iPad capabilities! I did a search on google and found an old FPN post about a CS 1029 and it has the two wide gold bands on a black pen. I tried to copy and paste the photo, but failed. It was a sale post, and locked, and two years old! Lovely pen though.Www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php?/topic/170960 if that is enough information.

Thanks Esterbex!

Nice picture, except that mine has a Duro nib!

I posted about this pen on the Conway Stewart Forum yesterday, a few people have looked over the last 24 hours.

Oh! Great and mighty wonder!

That is indeed the very nib! Are there no limits to your talents? Besides Warm Fuzzies at the drop of a hat?

Dear Esterbex! Thank you for posting the photo, and for finding that timeline history.I have now learned how to copy and paste it into the 'notes' on my iPad! cloud9.gif

I have just one or two Duro nibs, as my collects is small - in fact just two!One is a 60 in claret basket weave, and the other is a sterling silver Duro 100 LE.I have a very early RRHR that CS made for the Smiths chain of shops.

I like the look of your latest 1209 Henry, and if it is for sale, cn I put in a bid for it please? notworthy1.gif
