Has Anyone Heard Of Henry Simpole?

my63,

Aluminium is definitely not on, mainly because you would not be able to 'weld the joint together after the flat overlay had been curled! Brass might work, but it would be a lot harder to work with, and much less 'forgiving' than silver or gold, [if you made any mistakes! Which you will!]

Silver is not that expensive a metal provided you are buying from a jeweller's suppliers, but I would definitely suggest that you leave gold alone until you have developed your skills to a reasonable standard first!

Regarding the making of pen boxes for display purposes, I think that the best thing would be to PM me, and I could give you my phone number, and hopefully I will be better able to help you.

Is anybody who reads this thread considering going to the Dallas Pen Show?

Because I am going and I am planning to be demonstrating my craft while I'm there! In case you are interested, it goes on from the 19th till the 23rd September.

Esterbex, I stand very much corrected!!!

I suppose I was thinking about travelling to, and from the Show!

You have to bear in mind that there will probably be 'warm fussies' to deal with before the thing gets off the ground! Those pesky little suckers get everywhere these days!

Then, on the Sunday,I was thinking about visiting a certain 'Grassy Knoll', where you can enjoy a really good hot-dog! Apparently there is a really good book store nearby as well!

It should be a great weekend!

The Arkansas contingent is planning to show up and show out and take full advantage of any and all Texan hospitality that shows its face....vbg.gif

As for those warm fuzzies, I think there's a hunt club dedicated to just that sort of sport down there....So they may all have been pretty much dealt with.....unsure.gif

Morning all. Henry has been busy working on a new cap design for ONOTO, and I'm pleased to say that I've been given approval to share a couple of pictures. Henry has taken his original sketched design onto sheet silver, and painstakingly (as ever) hand cut the design ready for client approval. Perhaps Henry will comment further regarding the next stage of the process.

Another beautiful design though!

"Onoto the pen!" :clap1:

Good morning!

Thank you Neal for doing the honours once again with the wonderful photography!

A few months ago, Alistair [COE Onoto] sent me a cap for the new Mammoth Onoto pen which they are hoping will be available later this year. He asked me to think about an overlay for the cap, and this is what I came up with!

As you can see, the main subject of the o/lay is 'Onoto the Pen', but it is actually quite difficult trying to depict 'handwriting' on to silver sheet without it looking like a child's handwriting, but I am pleased with the result here!

The next stage of the procedure will be to curl the overlay, and solder the seam, and put the 'sprues' onto it, then it will be sent off to the 'casters'.

I'm not absolutely sure, but I think that 100 pieces will be done. Judging by the success of the first Onoto 'Plunger-filler', I suspect that they will be taken up quite quickly.

Pretty spoofy Henry! Lovely photos Neal!I wonder what the dimensions of the new pen are?

Not that I will be ordering one, I am anticipating a Fairy pen -and a Simpole/Corsini ED when they are ready. For once in my life I am not champing at the bit, but enjoying the wait! It may become my New addiction, waiting. roflmho.gif And I'm not kidding!

S'funny, Chris!

In a previous life, I used to be addicted to 'Waiting' at table in restaurants where I worked! I loved it, but it is a very demanding profession, nowadays, I'm really pleased that I'm out of it, after all, it nearly killed me, [well the booze nearly did!]

Thank you Henry and Wendi!I have had holiday jobs waiting on tables too, and also applaudclap1.gifHenry's success on the daily battle.

I am happy to let time decide my happiness in as far as pens are concerned, and am enjoying being free of the 'floozies'!! roflmho.gif

I bring glad tidings!

Having woken up earlier than usual, thinking that the Onoto cap-overlay would not be curled,, soldered and finished in time before my friend up at Hatton Garden zoomed off on his holidays for the next month, so I was resigned to the conclusion that it would have to wait until he returned. But when I phoned him, he asked me what the problem was, when I told him, he told me that he could do the soldering today, and I would have all the weekend to finish it, and that he would fix the sprues and get it off to the casters on Monday!

When I got back from London, a short while ago, I telephoned Onoto to tell them the good news, they sounded very pleased.

So, it looks as though the Mammoth Onoto Pen will be available in time for the London Pen Show! :P

It's been a good day!!!

I don't know what you mean about me not being able to be in two places at once, obviously once I have made the overlays for the Mammoth pens, then the pens will be made up by Onoto, I was referring to their hope that there will be examples, or hopefully some finished pens to show at the Pen Show in London on the 6th October.

Anyway, having cleared that up, I will be at the show as well!

Yesterday's Portobello, was a bit more busy compared with last Saturday.

I think that the reason was probably because there was a cycle race on last week, which didn't require tickets to be there! So consequently could be attended without any expense.

There is no getting away from it, that the Olympics has definitely affected both the businesses on the high street, as well as market traders, such as myself, but it did allow plenty of time to converse with the few customers that did come to see me yesterday.

I received quite a handful of pens to be serviced and repaired, so that should keep me busy during next week.

I'm pleased to say, that I finished the curled overlay, and took it up to Hatton Garden, to be 'sprued' and sent off to the caster's. Hopefully it will be done within the next fortnight.

"And so I will go to the ball!!!"

Warm Fussies not withstanding!
