I fear you may find the fairy market difficult to enter.

As I understand it, fairies use a system of runes. The system is not phonetic, but instead individual symbols represent emotions or imaginations. Runes may be combined to signify tangible objects or individuals (should one find some reason to record such mundanities).

Texts are written in a very traditional manner which, unfortunately, does not involve use of a pen. On a chill, damp morning, a fairy wipes the dew from a smooth surface--often a polished stone--and then breathes across it, leaving a thin film of mist. The author then recites in a clear voice, causing the runes to appear in the film and transfer into the surface, where they form a permanent, if often invisible, image. Needless to say there are few examples of fairy writing even in private collections, and all the known examples are disputed. This shortcoming has severely hampered efforts to develop translation or to appreciate the ancient and revered arts of fairy poetry and calligraphy.

That is most wonderful news Effin1!!!

I hope you'll let us in on the process and the progress of your most difficult decision. Some of us must live vicariously. ;)

I've just bought 21 from an on line auction to give me something to do while I recuperate. I was up all night replacing sacs. I thought with so many I could repair 1 each week and they would stop me buying more. Just can't leave them alone. Only another 3 to go. I would have finished but I had to order more sacs. I'm sending 3 away for repairs but not bad out of 21. I must be improving.

Hi there!

I'm just back from Portobello Road, it was a fairly busy day one way and another, I sold quite well, but then one person after another came in offering to sell me their unwanted vintage and some more modern Pens, so I ended up just a little more than evens on the days proceedings.

The pens that I bought were as follows:-

Mont Blanc 149, approx: 25 years old, but in near perfect cond: E Fine nib.

M.Blanc 144 fountain pen near new, Med nib.

Swan Black Calligraph pen, near perfect cond: boxed and papers.

English Parker Duofold Black Streamlined late 30's.

1920's [late] Butterfly pattern Conway Stewart Dinkie, [one for my personal collection!]

Parker 51 Black, with G/Filled Cap, Aerometric fill. near perfect cond:

And just before I was about to leave, this gentleman came along with a Mont Blanc 25 Safety Fill Pen, in Black Hard Rubber, very good condition, all the imprints on both the cap and the barrel are clear to read.

Quite a haul!!! :puddle:

All in a day's work!

PS. Welcome back Effin1, I'm pleased that the medico's investigations were not serious. The Fairy Series might be a little while yet!

Well..............and a Good Sunday to all you slow-coaches dragging the time zones from Saturday!

Congratulations to Effin1............... sometimes scares are what kick us off into a pen buying frenzy - sometimes it is pure relief...........I know what I prefer, and I've had both reasons in the past! Long may you fix, play with, and use all your pens!!!

Henry - maybe that one 'flat' Fairy (note the correct spelling please!) got distorted being in your shirt pocket - with such a hot blooded Artiste so close.............anything would distort, I would have thought!

Nice haul at Portobello................want to find a good home for that ole MB25???? :puddle:

We are now going out for a Sunday drive to find yet another purveyor of fine fish and chips in Tasmania............so please play nicely or have Sweet Dreams!!

I've missed this place so much!

Letter going to be posted to one GP........a big fat one! The letter, not the GP........OK, I'll stop digging now that I'm well and truly in the hole! TTFN!

Each day is the start of the rest of your life!

Make it count!!!

Still this side of the date line and planning on an early night. Not quite sure why I woke at oh dark thirty this morning, but having written 3 pens dry in the course of an inspirational flow, I'm quite ready to tuck into bed with someone else's output for awhile. -_-

Oddest thing how someone can say something in the course of a conversation, the brain cogitates for a bit and suddenly the plot foibles are fixed and the thing is off at a rate of knots. :o

Must repeat the gardening/swimming routine in the morning and see if it feeds the brain as successfully as it did today. :P

Edited to add: It's about bloomin' time I got a letter from somebody! Slackers you lot. Slackers! :glare:

I don't know about 'Slackers!'

I've been thinking about working on the haul of Vintage Fountain Pens that I got yesterday, just thinking about it for now! Is that OK? Or do I have to actually 'do' them for it to count?

S'funny you know, I think I'll just get on and do'em!!!

Glad you're back in harness again Ghost Plane!!!

crybaby.gif Unfortunately I do fall into the "slacker" slot....I will correct that shortly....blush.gif

As Chris commented earlier, nice haul @ Portobello Truffle! You should have enough there to keep you out of trouble for a bit.

Chris, wish I was driving through Tassie in hunt of something that delish! You've eaten and gone to bed now. Wish Ray a belated Happy Father's Day! cloud9.gif

Hi Esterbex!

Father's Day in Oz is sometime in September.........so don't worry about Ray just yet!

We did find fish and chips, but more importantly we found the "Wicked Cheese Company" and stopped off for a tasting session and a bit of retail therapy................nice chili Brie, delicious Pepperberry Cheddar, and some Camembert dying to be eaten - along with smoked Sea Trout that will be dinner..............in Kedgeree!!!

Our supper last night was cheeses and crackers, sliced Granny Smith apples from our own tree, and Walnuts with honey............my favourite combo!!! Delish! :puddle:

Each day is the start of the rest of your life!

Make it count!!!

Sorry my responses are a bit late but heck better late than never.

Pen Nut Thank you your comments are much appreciated.

Chris. Thank you the pens are coming along well. Had a few surprises. A beautiful Eversharp Doric Kashmir Pearl in unbelievable condition, a gorgeous CS Dinkie, a rather smart boxed Wyvern 5 and a GF Sheaffer that is a dream to write with. The pens cost £800 unrestored but they have given me so much pleasure tinkering with them that it was well worth the money and I needed cheering up.

Esterbex the process was horrendous. I kept a journal throughout my stay in hospital and it makes me cringe reading it. I doubt the board would enjoy the graphic details. Suffice it to say the nasty tumour is now out of my neck and I am assured it will not grow back.

Ghost Plane As mentioned 3 pens were just not enough.

Henry Did you realise to get my results I had to have my neck cut open and the tumour removed?

Effin1, no I'm so sorry, I got the impression that it was just a check up and that they hadn't found anything life-threatening!

Anyway, they've obviously got rid of the horrible thing and you are now on the road to recovery.

Get well soon!

You know we are gluttons for eye candy here....so if you can manage it, a pic of those lovelies would be the cat's meow.... But if it bothers your neck, we can wait....blush.gif

So pleased to have you back!
