I'm currently debating pulling the trigger on a Lamy Profil 80 with a medium nib, however I'm not sure about how it would write: I have a Lamy 2000 with a fine nib and that's about as broad as I could write normally with. I know the 2000 has a paintbrush of a nib though so how would a Profil 80 medium compare?

thanks, Elliott

Elliott,

Last week, I won an auction for F nib Profil 81 on EBay and have been using it now for 2 days. The F nib on mine is already about as broad as I'll tolerate (my F 2000 is much, much finer by comparison, sometimes I wonder if I bought a mislabeled EF), though it is very, very smooth. On better paper than I typically use, this pen would glide - but I would not use it for marginalia. The piston indeed holds a good deal of ink.

The auction I won had zero bidder activity, which I take as an indication that the design is just not that popular. The nib is impressive in person, strikingly unadorned except for the tiny "585" engraving.

My first pen (probably my last) to be made in West Germany.

Thanks for the reply, the profil series look such great pens although I'm not sure I could cope with anything quite as broad as you describe, especially if yours is a fine!

I know that my 2000 is bordering on a medium by my standards at least, so maybe yours is an EF. Neverthless the 2000 is the smoothest pen I've ever written with...
