Bat pen! I love their kind-of-glowing eyes! By the way, what type of leather journal is the pen resting on in the photos? It looks like it has a snap closure?

</i> Hey, big love on the bats! Hooray! *High-fives Playpen for her good taste*

That's the flashy raden (abalone shell, I believe).

I picked up this journal at an Urban Outfitters in San Francisco recently when I felt a nostalgic tug for Newbury Street in Boston circa 1997. Hold on, let me take a couple quick shots....

Notebook info: Urban Outfitters, no name, made in India. The paper is not high quality, but I guess I like my paper the way I like my nibs: toothy. (Therefore, I'm not a big fan of Clairefontaine or Rhodia.) Noodler's Black does not feather on this paper. Pelikan Blue Black and other inks feather on some pages and not others, something to do with the grain, and so far, nearly at the end of the notebook, no bleedthrough.

There's a pen slot, as you can see, for a thin pen. I carried a Mb Scenium RB for a coupla days, but it got no use tucked away inside the notebook. Two snaps. I stuck a couple of postage stamps on the cover for decoration. The bookmark -- the colorful shoelacey thing -- seems more Phish and Burning Man than India, but I'm no expert on India. That's the not-red Sheaffer Connaisseur modeling there.
