Hi Francis, how does one remove the vintage piston filler unit on the Mbs? Were they also threaded into the barrel?

Thanks!

Hari

Nice work, as always, Francis!

A fellow FPN member and a friend of mine sent me an e-mail to get me to check out these "interesting" tools as he'd put it.

Was just writing him back, saying you always make interesting and useful stuff from what I've seen.

Keep up the great work!

Scott

P.S.;

I can picture in my mind just how each works, except for not ever having worked on a MB Meisterstück or even used one before, that is.

Well done.

Hari & Inka,

The piston housing in vintage MB Meisterstück pens screws with RH thread in the barrel, just as on modern MB pens.

However instead of the 2 axial slots in the housing on modern pens, there is a transversal bore in the housing

The pin of the MB piston removal pinchers engages in this small transversal bore in the piston housing.

The pin is made from a drill bit, meaning it is 63 HRC & will never bend.

The tool can be used on all size ranges, from 142 to 149.

Dear Francis,

those look great and I can imagine that they work great as well.

If I wouldn't already have a (different but similar) version of the Montblanc tools I would be begging you to make them available :-)

Cheers

Michael

PS: Are you coming to Tilburg? ...we need to discuss the modern/vintage Montblanc and Omas nib unit removal tool; something I would even use much more often than the piston removal tools.

Thanks Francis, I was somehow under the impression that the filler units on the celluloid MB Mps were press fit.

Best,

Hari

Beautiful tools. I wish I had the skill to make tools like that.

I've seen Pelikan's original nib-tool for sale once but it was too expensive to buy.

Thanks for sharing.

Francis, I'm thinking of switching my 1990s era 149 nib with my MB platinum plated facet 146 FP nib. Would your tool work (both have 3 and 9 o'clock holes), and would you be willing to make your tool avail for sale?

Hi Steph,

Unfortunately one needs a dedicated nib unit removal tool for each size, so one for your 146 & one for your 149;

I've send you a PM with the cost.

Thanks, Francis

Steph, the nibs and nib units on the 146 and the 149 are different in size and cannot be interchanged, in case that was your plan. That said, Francis's tools are excellent.

Hi Francis,

Do you have any tool to remove the rear knob of a 50'ies 14X or 64X series Montblanc?

Best regards
