Pelikan M200

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking about purchasing my first Pelikan and I have a few questions. I'm wondering if there are any places online where I can get it at the cheapest price. Also, what is the nib like? I use a Pilot Cavalier and am used to their nibs so an EF Lamy Safari looks more like a M nib for me. Does anyone have a handwriting sample with a M200?

Is this a piston filler?

Yes, it's a piston filler.

I bought mine from Richard Binder and I got amazing service and quality control.

Keep in mind the "cheapest" price is frequently not the lowest cost. +1 for richardspens.com

My Pen Writing Comparisons

^- A link to writing samples

The first and second paragraphs were written with my Pelikan M200 with a EF Gold Plated Nib, it was written on Rhodia paper.

I got mine from Mr. Binder also, he did a great job on the nib. Eventually you're going to get the M1000. I moved from 200>600, now waiting for the M800 from Mr. Binder. Xmas will be M1000. Also Bill here on FPN (member name "printhardcopy") has great prices, and is very friendly. Got my M600 from him. All Pelikan write beautifully.

I've looked at Isellpens and Swisher pens, but Swisher does not have the color I like and Isellpens are currently out of stock for the one I like.

I've been thinking about an M150 since it's about $20 cheaper. Do they only come in one color, black body and transparent green ink tank?

If the downgrade because of price is a bad idea, say so before I make a bad decision, lol.

The 150 is smaller than the 200. They do come in more than one color.

I'm just wondering if they come in a dark barrel cover for the ink tank. Like this:

or does this one just seem to be filled with ink at the time?

Hmmm, my M200 had a grey ink tank but my M600 had a pure green ink tank. Maybe that's the difference between the lines of models (Souverän & Traditional)? I think it's a bad idea to get the M150, cause only 1xx nibs will fit it. If you get the M200, the 2xx and 4xx nibs will fit; more of an option for you. In the end it's all up to you.

The m200 is already pretty small, I wouldn't want to go smaller. Also, there are a lot of replacement nibs available for the m200, if you want to use it for calligraphy or experiment in different nib widths, etc. This was one of my first fountain pens. I was deciding between it and the Sailor 1911m on Pengallery, and chose the m200 for its piston system. I eventually got both and grew to like the 1911m better, but the m200 is still a fine pen that I enjoy.

Johnnyies -

I have an M200 that I would be willing to sell at a reasonable price. Its used, but very lightly - Truth be told, I'm simply using my M400 more. It would be a great way to try out a Pelikan without the higher cost of a new pen.

If interested, please let me know. BTW, this would normally be a PM, but the system tells me your messenger is somehow disabled.

Best,

Ryan

what's an oblique nib by the way? I saw this on a list of m200 nibs richard was selling.

Look in the Reference Pages on Richard's site. There is plenty of information about nibs there.

Good luck with your selection :)

I concur; great write up with plenty of great pictures, diagrams, done by R.B., have learned more there about nib types in a single sitting than after spending days on the Internet elsewhere.

Click here for a good place to start there.

Sorry for bump, but here's another question :$

http://isellpens.com/Images/Pelikan/M200%20black%20fp.jpg

Does the black body generally have the dark transparent ink tank or is it green? What model of the M200 is this?

If one inspects the photo very closely, one will notice that the pen does have the translucent dark grey over over the ink barrel above the section. The viewable part of the barrel is a feature, so the user can see the amount of ink left..........

YMMV
