HALLOWEEN cards going out with spiderweb wax seal. This black wax is surprisingly strong and almost impossible to remove. Should have no issues making it through the postal service. Have fun everyone.

I originally wanted to have them make my seal. The customer service wasn't all that great though - they told me the design wouldn't work but didn't really tell me which parts to improve. When I emailed them asking for more information or guidelines they never wrote back. Needless to say I happily took my business elsewhere.

Hi there mobilebibliothek,

This is John from CustomwaxNseals. What can i say!!! I'm ashamed that you've received such poor service from us, I totally understand you taking your business elsewhere as i too would of done exactly the same thing given the same circumstances. I can come out with a thousand and one excuses as to why potentially this may have occurred but the fact is we let you down, Please except my most humble apology and my assurance that should you decide to ever give us a chance to change your mind in the future you won't be disappointed.

Very best regards John

Hi Algester

This design wouldn't work on our laser as the lines are too thin, the laser beam cuts at an angle, therefore if we tried to engrave this design it wouldn't go very deep, even if we tried to do engrave many passes, this would result in a very shallow stamp which would give a disappointing result in the sealing wax - you would be one very unhappy bunny and so would we lol..... You would be much better creating a design similar to below, which lots of black area to engrave, this would allow the laser to go deeper, some thinner areas are ok, but they will result in shallower engravings..... I hope that makes sense :)

This is a design we have just engraved on a 50mm wax seal stamp, you will see the images are a strong black, I hope this helps you with creating your designs. Of course it depends on how your design is engraved and the requirements of the company producing the seal .... if you need any further help, do not hesitate to ask

This is a very quick rendition of your own art work copied from this site and traced so the quality of the trace is very poor but it gives you a better idea of what it is we are looking for in submitted artwork

This cant really compete with the dexter seals some of you have, but it is still something:

The image quality isn't the best. I only had my phone at hand.

I just found another source for non-custom seals.

https://www.etsy.com/shop/BacktoZero?section_id=11735197&page=1

They have a huge assortment of different seals and are similar in price to the J.Herbin seals.

Many are about $20 + shipping (to US, about $6) = $26

Seems good for a starter, or to get something different.

Recently I was very fortunate to acquire this silver fob seal.

It was made for a member of one of our titled families, a distant ancestor of two of the 20th century's most well-known Brits.

It is more than 220 years old and so pre-dates the formation of the United Kingdom, the introduction of the pound note and the copper penny and thus it had also been used for several years before the final and fatal victory of Admiral Nelson at the Battle of Trafalgar.

I shall treasure it because of it's history and, as an extra thrill, the initials are the same as mine.

I have reversed the image of the face to show the impression which is left on the wax.

That is a wonderful item Sherwood Forester - and it is so heartening to know that this little bit of history has found its way into the hands of someone who really appreciates it :)

UK-based pen fan. I love beautiful ink bottles, sealing wax, scented inks, and sending mail art. Also, thanks to a wonderful custom-ground nib by forum member Bardiir, I'm currently attempting calligraphy after years of not being able to do so due to having an odd pen-grip :D

Cheers, Floreat

Thank you for your lovely sentiments. I feel very privileged to own such a delightful and charming piece which has so much history behind it. I intend to use it as often as possible.

I had been thinking of asking someone to create my very own customised seal but I now think I shall be more than happy to settle for this gorgeous and probably unique silver antique seal.

I am truly smitten

Happy Holidays to my friends at The Fountain Pen Network. Here is a new snowflake wax seal I had made with a silver glitter wax.

I find vintage hard to come by, so most of mine are modern (initials, paw print, stylized sun, &tc). I have been lucky enough to find a few vintage ones, and hope to find more. My understanding is that as seals were used much like a signature, many seals were destroyed when the person passed away. I'm not sure if that is fact, but it would make sense - most of the vintage ones I see are heraldic, or look like they come from government offices.

Vintage, British Victorian, engraved steel:

This appears to be the seal that was in use for the 'Royal (Grammar) School - Salzwedel' as it was in 1918 - until renamed Jahn Gymnasium in 1931, and was likely the precursor to the seal following below:

Staatliches: National - Jahn Gnmnarium: Jahn Gymnasium: Friedrich Ludwig Jahn School - in Salzwedel: Town of Salzwedel

So, this was likely the seal used for the 'National Jahn School in Salzwedel' during the Nazi rule.

(To be honest, I've never used this one to seal anything traveling by mail.)

There are some lovely topic threads on sealing wax and wax seals in here, but I thought it would be fun if those of us who use wax seals would show photos of the ones we have — a photo display in one thread.

After dreaming about it all year, I was able to have Dexter engrave my family crest on a 1.5” (38mm) brass headed desk seal. They did a spectacular job and the level of detail they achieved in such a small area is incredible. It is like a miniature sculpture that can be made and shared in wax. Even a month after receiving it, I’m still excited about it! I’d also like to say they are some of the nicest and most professional people you could ever do business with. I’m very honored that Dexter has chosen the seal as their current Facebook banner. Below are photos from concept to completion...
