Very fine! Looks like some excellent detail and nice depth. I'd be hanging around the mailbox too--enjoy!

I'm disappointed in the Hoopoe stamp; the carving is quite uneven so I'm attempting to return it. I was able to do a seal easily with a long fireplace match. I just stirred the wax puddle a bit before stamping to mix in the dot of soot and it looks fine to my eye.

I haven't even tried the brulee torch I got yesterday...

  • 2 weeks later...

Busily sealing up my Christmas cards, thought I'd share my three new seals; can you tell they were practice runs?!

Thanks, the compass was a nice surprise after a weeks long wait for the Hong Kong Ebay vendor to ship. Very well defined and I'm happy with it for a stock stamp.

Got my very first seal today, it having arrived in near record time from Mustom in Korea.

And here's its (and my) very first impression (still have some work to do on that stirring the wax thing):

Excellent, ahclem! I suspect a story there...

Looks to me like the wax stirring was just fine. Nice, clear impression from your seal. I still get a few bubbles now and again, too.

By the way, I was just informed that our "compass" design is technically called a"Compass Rose" and it's the actual needle which is the compass...a bit of trivia for you

Only that we're now required to include a seal on all communications with the mothership (to ensure authenticity).

Interestingly, through a happy bit of happenstance, a friend and I were driving through Half Moon Bay on Wednesday and had arranged to stop and have lunch with Ward and Linnea of Atelier Gargoyle (wonderful people, BTW). Since the seal had unexpectedly arrived Tuesday, I took along that impression on their wax. Ward used it to demonstrate a technique by which you hold a lit match over (but not too close to) any bubbles and they pop and then remelt enough to basically disappear. Neat.
