That is lovely; where did you get the seal?

I am curious as well.

There's no easy answer, guys. All over the place, really. Online, antique places, etsy in the antique sections, auctions, friends in foreign countries who keep an eye out for me ...

Sorry! I've been collecting them for years, I've just never posted them. Some of the really nice ones I got from two different ebay vendors that stopped selling a few years ago, sadly. :( I check back every now and then and still nothing new has been listed since 2011(ish).

I've been out questing for vintage seals and see quite a few of them which are blank. Is it just a handle I'm looking at? They seem to be all one piece...

Thank you. I made grooves to the stamp by the edge of a file after soldering, to form those background stripes. I designed this logo as a child already and still use it... It's simple but i also like that it's easy to read from a seal like that.

Just a fingertip of cooking oil. Not much. Without it some corners of initials can grab and crack when i pull off the stamp.

I've never had to grease a seal... I just breathe on it and that gives it just enough moisture to release... Maybe we use different types of sealing material? My go to is from Atelier Gargoyle. Their material really holds up well to the rigors of the Postal Service.

Finally, my stamps are here! I ordered two stamps from Custom Wax n' Seals. I placed my order on Saturday, Nov 9, was contacted for Proof Approval on Monday, Nov 11, received an email stating they were shipped on Wednesday, Nov 13, and today, Thursday, Nov 21, they arrived! Not a bad turnaround, considering they came from the U.K. to Maryland, USA!

So without further ado...

The Proofs:

The first is a standard design they had on the website, with my first and last initials ("J.S.") Disregard the big "2" in the picture, they had sent me two different designs, for approval.

The second is a "Semi Custom" design - they had the art work, and I had them include the text. It means "First, Do No Harm", a phrase we use a lot in EMS.

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y252/archi77/Stamp01.jpg

The two stamps came packaged very securely in a small box, shipped via International Air Mail. Once opened, and unwrapped, here is what I found...

The first stamp:

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y252/archi77/photo5-1.jpg

The wax seals that were provided. I'm going to have to get the silver ink, I really like that look, especially on the second stamp design!

The second stamp. I absolutely LOVE the way this one turned out!

And the provided wax seals:

I can't wait to get home and practice using these beauties! I highly recommend Custom Wax n' Seals. Very professional, very quick, and extremely good quality. I think the only bad thing I can think of is that it's going to be difficult to decide which one to use!

Thank you for your lovely comments and photographs on our Wax Seals, we are really pleased you like them. We do try to despatch as soon as possible from the UK and always endeavour to give quality and satisfaction, and to comply with any request asked of us.... I hope you enjoy your seals.

Custom Wax N Seals

Oh my gosh, yes! I have zero complaints about your service, speed, or quality of product! I've written a few letters today and as soon as the ink dries, I intend to use the seals to finish them off! Can't wait to use them for the first time.

Thanks again!!

archi--very nice custom seals, they did a fine job!

I got my Hoopoe stamp on Saturday, but didn't have anything to properly melt the wickless wax I'd bought--frustration! I either need some matches or a culinary torch...... :crybaby:

Two more stamps in the mail--a Claddagh and an initial from Nostalgic Impressions [and some wax with a wick until Santa brings me a Creme Brulee torch!]

If you get yourself a hot air tool that rubber stampers use to melt embossing powder, this will work for melting sealing wax, and can be used when taking old pens apart for repair.

I do recommend the lighters with the metal tube. BBQ lighter or stove lighter or whatever they are called. They burn like normal lighters, but can stay burning for longer times due to the metal tube. They can be used to melt the wax sticks and to melt recycled wax seals directly on the paper. The torches used for e.g. creme brulee are IMHO to hot for wax. The wicked wax is according to my experience of lesser quality. The burning wick also creates soot which deposits on the wax.

I AM VERY EXCITED. I decided to take a leap of faith and put a deposit on a commission by Dexter for a custom made one silver Mammoth Oval signet ring 20mm wide plus 22mm high with a heavyweight head 3mm thick. I was worried that they wouldn't be able to give the below coat of arms, which I re-designed to better represent my family, enough detail to give it justice on a small ring.

I must say though, Today I received the proof and I am pleasantly surprised. So much so that now I want to order the Desk seal version. I figure if that's what it would look like on a ring, I can just imagine what it would look like on a 25mm or larger desk seal.

I am now eagerly awaiting the ring which they said I could have in as little as two weeks. I am more excited than a school boy on the 4th of July. ;-)

I will be sure to post pictures when I get it.

Latinstylez, that is really fabulous! I do not think you will be disappointed.

The proof for my arms seal was much larger than the seal, but as near as I can see (and I got pretty close), the final product had all the detail of the proof. Your ring size isn't too far off the 25mm coin size of the standard desk seal. Please be sure to show us the final result when you get your ring, and give us your honest review of it, with comparison to the proof, good with the not so good, if there be any.
