Show us your wax seals

I am new to The Fountain Pen Network. I just came across this thread and thought that some of you might be able to help me. I have a wax seal matrix from the USS Fairfax (DD-93) Department of the US Navy. I have been researching this and I have not found much information on this seal. I have found some embossed letters on ebay with this impression but I am pretty sure that this is a wax seal matrix and not an embossing tool. If anyone has any information on this seal it would be helpful. Here are some pictures of it...

Can't see your photos for some reason. Get this:

Sorry about that. I posted the pictures on my google docs account and I thought that I made them public but for some reason it doesn't work. Does anyone know where I can host the pictures for free so that I can put them in this thread?

OK. Finally signed up for photobucket. Here are the pics of the wax seal from the USS Fairfax.

If anyone has any knowledge of what era this came from it would be appreciated. I think it was from WW1 but I don't know for sure.

This is a really nice old seal, danskapia. I have no idea how old the seal is, the USS Fairfax had quite a history. Might be safe to say somewhere between the eras of WWI and WWII, before the Fairfax was sent to Britain. Regardless, this is a seal to enjoy and be proud of.

:roflmho:

Wow so many beautiful seals! Now I want seals too. I used to have a couple of seals with my Chinese name when I was a child - we used them in school. I can't remember where it is any more... :(

Commissioned Dexter to make me a seal with this Mayan Calendar art. Will only be able to post the result in 4-6 weeks.

Might be a bit longer than 4-6 weeks, but wow! You are going to have a very cool seal when all is said and done!

Very cool design!!!

To give some feedback to what kiavonne says, I placed my order Nov 4th, and just got my first proof today. They likely had extra volume and time off over the holidays though. I'm sure you'll have it before 12/12/12 however.

With the new FPN rules, now I REALLY don't know what to put in my signature.

Great seals! Especially loving the ship, nicely detailed! I am a little bummed I forgot to grab my Abraxas Amber wax when I was home for Christmas, and my seal, but I am searching for another seal anyway. Don't know what I want exactly, so don't think I will be investing in a custom made one.

Sam, do you know if Abraxas does their custom seals similar to their set of line drawn ones, or could they be more complex?

FP Ink Orphanage-Is an ink not working with your pens, not the color you're looking for, is never to see the light of day again?!! If this is you, and the ink is in fine condition otherwise, don't dump it down the sink, or throw it into the trash, send it to me (payment can be negotiated), and I will provide it a nice safe home with love, and a decent meal of paper! Please PM me!For Sale: TBA

I'm not sure. Maybe kiavonne knows? I got a nice stash of that amber wax from Castle In the Air.

Well, no, not really. However, a visit to their site makes me suspect "no" is the answer. They have seals and sets with alphabet letters or established picture seals, and they have a couple of seals/sets with unengraved seals, presumably to allow one to take the seal to their own engraver of choice. I did not see a section for custom seals from Abraxas themselves.

edit to add: I did find their "engravements" section. Still, I suspect their custom engraving is still two dimensional, and limited pattern work. Perhaps fancy scroll work or similar is available, with the suggestion of such in their photos, but I'd say correspondence with them would be in order to find out if they can give you what you want.

Thanks Sam, and Kiavonne,

I do like some of their standard seals and may get one or two of those, but I will look into their custom seals a little further...once I figure out what exactly I want represented on a seal that is!

Wonder how the seal will perform. There're some very small patterns on the original Mayan Calendar art.

It is intricate in design, but if they can do this for me,

I know. I told them to see if the small ones would work. If not I will go with just the inner part.
