I was asked to restore my links to my Dexter seals images, but there are 4 Dexter seals now and that would make a lot of images in one post. So, maybe a slideshow from my photobucket album instead.

I noticed my photos disappeared in the FPN software upgrade so I'm putting them back in this thread.

WOW, what a difference that J. Herbin silver/gold sponge stick makes. Look at these two--first time using it.

So, where did you find it ?

Amazon.com had it, but I also asked Rachael Goulet to get some. They stopped carrying it because it didn't sell. I'm sure it didn't sell because people have not seen how nice it looks. There is another brand that NostalgicImpressions.com sells that paints on and is permanent here. They also have various metallic stamp pads here. I ordered one of each to try.

I got this ship stamp from Nostalgic Impressions, and one of the sponge metallic pads, and used it with some of that luscious amber Abraxas wax from Castle In the Air. This is a rigid "security" type rosin wax, and won't make it in the mail like the J. Herbin or Atelier Gargoyle brands. It looks like a puddle of Root Beer Barrel candy! Check this out (thumbnails):

That looks realy nice.

An as you can tell,

It's a lot of fun !!!

by the way.

Is the final orm of the seal just from dropping the wax or did you use the base of the wax stick to mold it ?

I used the stick to mold it. I got one of the culinary (creme brulee) torches which melted it very quickly vs. the BIC lighter.

Really, really lovely additions to this thread! Love this stuff! And what is there about ships that they seem so perfect for wax seals!? Very cool "root beer" ship seal, Sam. :)

Just received my custom wax seal today from www.customwaxnseals.com and I'm quite satisfied. The etching is very precise and overall quality of the seal is superb. Reasonable price too.

The design is my own, though I borrowed some of the elements from the digital ether (laurels and anchor). D W R S are my initials. The anchor represents my family's maritime history which goes back several generations. The star is an immovable point of light, visible from anywhere, which one can use to fix his position in life. The inscription at the bottom reads "Truth as Virtue" I can't wait to start sending letters stamped with my new seal!

Enjoy!

The Fouled Anchor - representing the daily challenges of a Naval Officer.

And the "Star" looks similar to a Compass Rose, re-enforcing the maritime theme.

Very nice.

P.S. You have four initials?

Those are really great, Sam. I love the relief of the sails on the second one.

A thoroughly staged holiday setting.

Um, well, I think I'll finish my Christmas cards now.

This is a very simple one with initials of my better half and myself...

It was custom made on brass with a hand-turned handle (I forget what the hardwood I requested was now).

The wax is a supple red with gold dust from a local supplier and perfect for Christmas (the colour correction is a bit off) ... although the best handling wax by a significant margin is indeed that by Atelier Gargoyle.
