Diamine Midnight

I got a give-away bottle of this at the DC Pen Show - and I LOVE it! I'm not a "blue ink" person, but this is a nice, every day blue with loads of personality. I'd buy a bottle of this, so I hope Diamine adds this to their lineup. HP

Hello Hennypenny

Midnight has just been added to the New Century range.

Regards

Phil

That's great news, Phil. Thanks. Best,

David

I'm new to using fountains and I purchased some Diamine China Blue at the DC Pen Show. I got the Midnight as a sample, and I like it better than the China Blue!!! I was hoping for a dark, rich blue in the China but found it in the Midnight. I hope they offer it for sale because I'm surely going to run out of my sample with how much I love to use it.

Note Liverpool 1's post above -- this has been added to Diamine's New Century line-up. Yea!!!

Now, does anyone know what's the difference between their Old English and New Century lines? HP

On the whole, and in my experience, the New Century line is more saturated and intense than the Old English line. Best,

Reading this thread yesterday afternoon, I ordered a bottle of Midnight, which arrived this morning (a tribute to Diamine, Royal Mail or both!) and have just been comparing it with Majestic Blue.

I think Midnight is darker, and more like a blue black (with no green although it is a cooler blue) than Majestic, which seems to achieve its richness through sheer force of pigment - much as I love it, it never really seems to dry if there is any humidity in the air, and cleaning it out of a pen takes twice as long as any other blue, except maybe Penman Sapphire.

Quick drying and good shading even if it is very very dark, I think this will become the very favourite Diamine ink for many people. Another corker - Phil & his gang are really on a roll :happyberet:

That looks like a great blue. I'd like to see a comparison to PR Midnight Blue and PR Black Magic Blue.

Exactly what I was thinking. I have a bottle of each on my desk write.. uh right.. now and they are my two current favorite dark blues. This stuff looks very promising.

John hi

Any chance to have a quick scan review of the two?

I use Majestic a lot and am intrigue by the Midnight.

Thanks

Where are folks ordering from?

It's listed on the Diamine (UK) website. No picture as yet but priced at £2.54 incl.VAT for the 30 ml plastic bottle. I understand postage for this to the US is very reasonable and no VAT for you to pay!

Hope that helps.

Hi Gilles - I'd love to, but my all-in-one scanner is rubbish at accurate colour and my good scanner is up in the loft. Given my forum name and the number of inks I have, I really must get this sorted out and attempt some reviews of my own  Even better though, PM me your address and I will send you a side-by-side sample.

Suffice it to say that if you like Majestic Blue, you are going to like Midnight. I think you can order in confidence - and as I have said before, with the 30ml bottles being so cheap, it's like buying yourself a beer.

Jared,

Thanks for the scans!

It's a BB I'd like to have.

--Julie

If by BB you mean Blue-Black, I'd have to disagree. Initially I thought it was another version of a blue-black ink, but I can't find any black in it at all, just deep dark blue. I really like it--perhaps it's what I've been looking for.

I bought the midnight blue based on this review and my high expectations was fulfilled. The scans posted was very accurate and I am very happy buying this great true dark blue ink. Not blue-black, not blue-purple, not blue-green - a dark, pure blue; just as you wrote. Thanks!

I'd love to see a head to head comparision of this and PR Midnight Blues in terms of flow. saturation, clean up etc.

Also, I am interested in hennypenny's question about the difference in the two lines of Diamine ink. Does anyone know for sure? I even checked the Diamine website and found nothing except a note that the New Century inks are "new".

If Diamine Midnight is less saturated than PR Midnight Blues, then I am very interested.

I never mention it, but thanks to John, I bought few beers of Midnight blue. It actually became my new blue. I still use Majestic, simply because, as its name says so simply, it is a majestic blue.

To match these blues, I use in contrast, Ruby form Diamine. On the page, Clairefontaine, it just jumps at your eyes. Very majestic, very rich and flamboyant. Very me.

All I can say on this front is that PR Midnight Blues is a straight, solid color with no shading. It looks like the Diamine Midnight shades really beautifully, which makes me tempted... I wish Midnight Blues had shading.

I must have meant that, but now over a month later I cannot remember why and what I was thinking. Still want to try this ink, though, DDB (deep dark blue) and all.
