Williamsburg Ink Powder (red)

Purchased Red and Blue ink from here:

http://www.williamsburgmarketplace.com/web...9&langId=-1

This is my first review of the red -- I was quite surprised at its waterproof-ness. I expected it to wash right off the page but it held on with ~30% fade.

It compares quite nicely with Waterman Red -- a bit less saturated.

Note the instructions say mix with 1 or 2 oz water--I used 1 oz.

I'll post an update in a couple of days once I have a chance to determine if the pen survived or clogged.

Thanks!

That is cool, to see that you can still get the powdered ink, with a real goose-feather-quill pen & 12 sheets of good paper & envelopes all for @ $15.85 shipped.

If I had some "fluid" income, I'd definitely give them all a try, especially liking the idea of the 3 different colored powders in blue/red/brown that each [they say] make @ 3oz of ink!

I used to go on field trips to Colonial Williamsburg and Jamestown back in grade school and junior high school.

Those trips were always a blast into the past [loved watching the glass-blowers and blacksmiths at work], just never had enough money with me to buy the quills or inks.

I was fortunate enough that my parents paid for me to go on the trips, only after much begging I add, but they never had provided any spending money.

Thanks for sharing, for the Link [now Bookmarked] and for the review, will definitely be looking to see how this ink works out in your Hero fountain pen, would still love to someday buy a nice glass dip-pen too.

In the meantime I'm still having a blast with the dip-pen & nibs I got from FPN forum member jbb not long ago, would be great fun to try these powdered inks with the antique carbon steel dip-nibs she'd sold me.

“I view my fountain pens & inks as an artist might view their brushes and paints.

They flow across paper as a brush to canvas, transforming my thoughts into words and my words into art.

There is nothing else like it; the art of writing and the painting of words!”

Well it's been a couple of weeks and the hero 616 has been filled a couple of times and still writes well--no sign of clogging.

Mind you, I would not put this ink in one of my expensive pens as I'm told that powdered inks have solids that could clog a pen. But for the $1.50 hero, it's worth the risk. Pen doesn't start right away after a few days' rest--but I've always had slow-starts with red inks (Waterman red, PR Fiesta red) so I can't lay the blame on the williamsberg powder for that.

This red's a keeper for the cheapy-pens.

Just for the record, I've heard that running the ink through a coffee filter can help take out sediment left over from the powder.

This sounds interesting, I just ordered three packets of the blue ink powder. I've got a Hero 616 to try it on and I may try the coffee filter idea, too.
