I don't have any Cadets about at the moment to check (at work, alas), but I think the collar that holds feed and point is turned the wrong way in the pen-- the threads should be on the outer end, with the point/feed emerging from them, so that the whole unit ends up pretty much flush with the face of the section, e.g.:

Out of curiosity, is there a number on the point?

Ernst is absolutely right (which, it seems to me, is normal). I just had my Tip-Dip apart a couple days ago and the threads are indeed at the point end. Turn the collar around, be careful of the inner feed, and you should be in business.

thanks very much for the help the nib has

SHEAFFER 14K AUSTRALIA 23

i presume that the nib andfeed has to be very tight so as to be able to screw the unit in tight

This wound up as a PM, and I'm not seeing anything shocking involved, so we might as well keep it open. Things should indeed be fairly tightly bound together-- you want the collar to come out rather than the stuff in it (if you ever feel the need to put in one of the lesser steel-point units). Some gentle heat on the collar to allow for some play is in order. I wager there's some kind of constriction at the end of the collar to keep it from going in too far, which is what's been causing trouble getting it in the wrong way 'round.

Are you questioning my fallibility? I'm eminently fallible, I'll have you know! :P
