TACCIA Ukiyo-e Utamaro Benizakura, Syaraku Koiame, Syaraku Natane, and (another bottle of) Syaraku Kurocha.

  • 2 weeks later...

The Pelikan Edelstein Golden Beryl arrived yesterday and I like the shading more than the sparkle. Maybe I need to try it on a different paper?

I'm still waiting on the inks that will bring my Jacques Herbin shimmer collection up to date:

Jacques Herbin Shogun

Jacques Herbin 1670 Violet Imperial

Jacques Herbin 1670 Fuchsia de Magellan

Jacques Herbin Bleu Austral

After those arrive, I plan to apply the "Do I already have something similar?" criteria to future inks. I've been spending my time and money on displaying the inks I have in the hopes I will enjoy my current collection instead of chasing that consumer dopamine rush. We'll see how that experiment goes.

Thank you, for showing me the names of a few Herbin inks I didn't know about.

I've had Smokey Gray which I like for a long time.

Have a few Diamine glitter inks that shade also.

How well do the Herbin glitter inks shade?

@Bo Bo Olson My pleasure! I quite like the gray as well. The Shogun is supposed to be black with shimmer, but I'll do a comparison when it gets here.

The shading is universally good on the inks that I have from this line. I think the best is the 1670 Rouge Hematite and the least pronounced shading on the 1798 Kyanite du Nepal. It so depends on the pen you're using it in though. I use these inks in my Pilot Parallel pens as they're so easy to pull apart and clean out, plus the italic nibs really show off these inks.

I try and post some scans in the correct forum when I get a chance. I'm sure our more expert reviewers have already done so.

Oh and Goulet pens has a video on YouTube about these inks seeming to be easy to clean out of pens than the Diamine. Has that been your experiece?

So the Edelstein Mandarin arrived. Writes well, but looks a bit meh. Maybe orange inks just aren’t my jam? Still waiting on the Golden Beryl, but it’s coming with the matching pen!

I have similar thoughts on Mandarin. It shades beautifully, but it is just plain hard to read. Maybe used sparingly as a highlight, just maybe. In the mean time, I have still not succeeded in giving away my bottle, which filled one pen, once.

Having only Stormy gray, that is too few to compare.

I didn't notice much trouble with Diamine, but wasn't looking for it as such.

I was using Pelican piston pens. I unscrew the nib and take a rubber suction bulb to squirt out the remnants.

If you take your time in cutting up a rubber bulb in slivers, eventually you will get one that fits the nib section, which makes cleaning out easier even with out glitter.

I got so many inks I need to use again....like those 4-5 Diamine glitter inks.

I'm not much for orange generally, but I really like KWZ Missourah Crawdad, which is a really orange orange. KWZ Orange looks just as orange in online swatches. Maybe that's am option if you want another orange.

  • 9 months later...

folks, what happened to this thread? Did you all stop buying ink?!

I'm waiting for:

Bloody Absinth

Bloody Brexit

Communication Breakdown

Hells Bells

November Rain

Purple Rain

Skull & Roses

Smoke on the Water

all Diamine 30ml (annoying it's made 50 miles away but I can only get these from Germany!) Flipping Master of Puppets was out of stock and I need it SOLELY for the name.

and

Sui-gyoku; Asa-gao; Ajisai; Kon-peki; Fuyu-shogun and Fuyu-gaki, all coming from Japan at a very reasonable price

and then Cult Pens did a sale on Pelikan and while I was snagging a pink M205 I figured I may as well get me some more Diamine at 5 for 4: Teal; Writer's Blood; Earl Grey; Aurora Borealis and Amazing Amethyst (all 30ml). This is in addition to an earlier inkfest which resulted in 4x Wearingeuls - Cheshire Cat; Floating Cloud; The Star-Child and Wayfarer, and Taccia Ukiyo-e Hokusai Sabimidori.

To be fair to me I haven't bought any ink in well over a year, I think. Not much anyway! I just need the last Iroshizukus I've got my eye on.

6 Pure Pens inks, held up in customs for 12-14 days... We finally called customs, and was told, could be another 3-6 weeks for them to get to my package. Then comes a bill or pick it up locally and pay cash.

(China sends each fork of a set individually, to overwhelm German customs so most of their counterfeit goods and drugs can get through.)

Beddgelert, Pendine Sands, Celtic Sea, Porthcurno Cove, Saltire Blue  and Glens of Antrim, a nice looking shading green pens..

Hell, I even cleaned out 12 pens...two have since then been used.

I even found which printed formula to use, and how, in I intend to do ink reviews on them.

:gaah:Customs gives me all the time in the world to clean out that remaining over filled dirty pen cup.

@Bo Bo Olson Customs are the worst ☹️ It looks like my Fountainfeder order has got through, as it is now in Royal Mail's hot sticky little hands and no mention of a bill. The order from Japan I kept under the £135 limit to the UK which basically means no import duties as it's paid at source, or something, HMRC move in mysterious ways.

I have seen a lot of small businesses stop shipping to Germany due to the issues getting stuff in from the UK (thanks Brexit, NOT) but 8 weeks in Customs?! Wow. Maybe we have to post them to you one at a time?!

@midnightblues -- Well, for me, I haven't been doing a lot of shopping online recently.  I did pick up three bottles of ink last weekend at an estate sale: Noodler's Legal Lapis (currently in one of the Noodler's FPCs) a small bottle of Noodler's Luxury Blue (not yet tried) and a mostly full bottle of some as yet to be ID'd Diamine ink (by sloshing the ink around in the bottle, it appears to be some sort of blue -- but haven't had a chance to try it (or Luxury Blue, for that matter) yet.

But for $5 US per bottle?  Sure, I'll take a chance....

A Diamine custom/bespoken called 'Turtle Belly'.

I also decided to try some 3 Oysters I caught on sale; got bottles of Marine Green, Cool Gray, & took a chance on their Black looking as cool as it does in their ad swatch.

Kind've odd but their sample vials of the Black were disproportionately higher ($8/5ml) than their others ($2.50 & $4), but the full bottle only $10 as compared to their others at $12 -- so $2 more to go from 5ml vial to full 38ml corner-sitter bottle seemed the no-brainer. Maybe a glitch I stumbled upon but I jumped & it took so, we'll see. Given my luck, I'm prepared for its imagined 'cool-ness' being a total plotch. What I can't decide is whether that amounts to a 'saving' or not. LOL

And finally,  since the shipping threshold was near, added a few [Oyster] 5ml samplings of interest:

Giwa,  Navy Blue,  Peacock Blue,  & Peacock Green.

I got 99 problems but a BIC ain't one!
