I ordered the Herbin 1670 sample set, and samples of Diamine Jack Frost, De Atrementis Columbia Blue, and 2 from Robert Oster: Liquid Gold and Hydra (this one’s free until next Friday) from Goulet Pens.

Hi PGC

I've been looking at those Herbin sample sets for a while, could never decide what to get.  On the J Herbin front, one of my test inks that stood out in the shade-shimmer category, (in the ink test I never finished and have to get back to), was Herbin  Cornaline d'Egypte, and that was on Kokuyo 64gsm paper which barely shows anything the inks can do.  Maybe this week I'll start again with Cosmo Snow paper.  Maybe.  Anyway, keep me updated with how your samples turn out.🙂👍

[My latest side quest is for an ink that shades like Polar Glow but without so much sheen.]

You love those orange shades, that one is pretty. I swatched my samples, but I haven’t really written with any very much yet. I have a few pens I need to finish up before I can ink more, I have about 19 right now and it feels like a lot. I loved the Gris Ourage and Bleu Ocean. The perennial favorite, Emeraude de Chivor reminded me of Sheaffer Skrip Green.  The Violet and Rouge were ok. The De Atramentis Columbia Blue-Copper is a showstopper.

Top 5 of 20 currently inked pens:

MontBlanc 144 IB, Herbin Orange Indien/ Wearingeul Frost

Sailor x Daimaru Central Rockhopper Penguin PGS mini, Sailor Wonder Blue

Parker 88 Place Vendôme IB, Diamine Golden Sands

Parker “51” Desk pen EF, Sailor Manyo Konagi

Yiren Giraffe IEF, Pilot Yama-Guri/sky blue holographic mica

always looking for penguin fountain pens and stationery

OK order's in.  I should be getting the same set plus a couple of outliers. 😁

so Blushing Mushroom is basically a slightly desaturated Oster Lyme Regis Grey. Not the first time I've noticed a heck of a resemblance between FWP and RO. Think it will be my last FWP for a while.

In other news I fixed my Diamond 540 (unstuck the piston) and tried some diluted Walden Pond in it (diluted 1:3 to control the smear) and as I held the fresh fill over the vial I watched it run out of the nib. Darn it.

I also bought some Bock broads to replace my TWSBI Vac and 580 M nibs, the #5 is lovely and broad, the #6 is narrower than an average medium. Grrrrrrrr.

taccia ukiyo-e hiroshige ainezu - a name I had to copy and paste - is winging it's way. I'm moving into the 'less-saturated, grey for winter, looks like pencil' stage in my ink journey.

After having a very bad time as a result of an invasive dentist OP, I decided that I need more inks. Haha. 🤭

So I ordered Morgenröte and Gewitterwolke from Fritz Schimpf and Scribo Blue Cosmico and J.Herbin Orange Soleil from Stilo e Stile.

Now I feel better!

(not really )

PS: when already buying inks, I also added a pen to each order ...

That’s a good way to recover from such a dentist visit. When you receive the pens and inks, you’ll be feeling better.

Not in the mail,

but a major local department store is closing down, and I got Lamy crystal Agate and Topaz for 10% less.......in the last week of the month just before closing, I expect 50%, but now fountain pens and inks just 10%...

And I really didn't want a Lamy, but a 2000, or an Imporium...which has a great nib, the most flexi of the only 2X tine spread nibs I've ever ran into....lots of tine bend. But not 3X tine spread or I'd given up beer for that then semi-flex nib.....but with just 2X tine spread is not a semi-flex.:crybaby:...Just a very nice nib but at that price...and 'new' out of my reach.

But......the wife liked the color of special edition Studio Aquamarine, so we got that. She likes turquoise and off blues like that....not that she'll every use it.:rolleyes:image.thumb.jpeg.f7b4d906cea8877013799f3f8c775fc1.jpeg

Ransom Bucket cost me many of my pictures taken by a poor camera that was finally tossed. Luckily, the Chicken Scratch pictures also vanished.

I wasn't familiar with Lamy Topaz so I looked it up... a very interesting Brown instead of the usual Topaz Blue.   Good score. 🙂👍

It shades  And in a semi-flex therefor wet nib of my '50-54 Pelikan OB, so in a regular flex/Japanese 'soft' like a Pelikan 20 it should shade even more.

The Agate-a lighter gray, shades in my new Lamy Studio aquamarine F, and is a bit more pleasing dark in an  '30's-50*** Osmia 62  semi-flex ML. medium left oblique = OM.

Osmia had a more exact way to say which way the oblique grind was, ML for medium left foot grind, MR for a medium left handers  right foot grind. Mo guessing like th other German obliques.

*** In 1950 Faber Castell, (pencil empire)  the maker of a second tier fountain pen finally finished it's buy out of Osmia that started in 1936 and added a 0 number to the Osmia pen numbers. My Osmia-Faber-Castell 540, was in 1950 or before a 54.

Then the egotistical idiots at Faber -Castall who bought a Graftom ...noble rank...a bit higher than a Count....they slowly erased all the Osmia markings of the first class pen they bought.

The ball point killed it off anyway.

I don’t have any spare Lamy cartridges, and saw a bundle of Lamy Turmaline ones at a good price. It will match my AL-star, and my Geha school pen is a similar color.

The Lamy Agate was still dry on three papers even in a Parker Vac BB.

On Mondi, it was good, not dead dry, and darker.

Diamine Silver Fox is my 'best' gray.

I ended up with 15 pens inked ,:headsmack: in going gray. 5 Pens inked in grays.  I was supposed to be at only7 pens inked to use up more ink.

An embarrassing number of bottles. I was all SABLEd up before I ordered these, but there's still room in the drawer sooo...

Birmingham Pens - Monarch, Oil Beetle, Burlywood, Amaranth, Solar Storm, Chrysan Themum, Basil Pesto

With one exception these were all on sale. I started out with only Monarch, Solar Storm and Chrysan Themum; added the others later.

Iroshizuku - hotaru-bi, tsuki-yo, fuyu-syogun

ETA Oops, didn't mention the green. I'm chasing something analogous to the sample of Oster Australis Tea that I got from Goulet back in the spring. My bottle of hotaru-bi arrived yesterday and I think it's the best I'll get, since the bottle of Australis Tea looks nothing like the sample. </ETA>

Can't have too many much blue - ink, eyeshadow, indigo vats. Plus a gray with hopefully more character than Lexington Gray (which is a fine shade but bland).

Lol...

At the moment I have I think three pens inked up with purples:

the Dove Grey 51 Vac has Roberts Oster Sydney Lavender; the black Vector from the calligraphy set has Diamine Monboddo's Hat, and vintage Quink Permanent Violet in the Silver Pearl Vac Major....

Huh.  All Parkers at that -- hadn't even noticed until I wrote them down just now....

Yep.

I have two filled with purples right now. Until a few days ago it was three. The True Writer Silver Anniversary had Pelikan 4001 Violet, the Lamy 2000 has Akkerman Vorhout Violet and the dark purple ripple ebonite Newton Townsend has Levenger Amethyst.

Well y'all got me to examine my life choices. I have on hand six different purples, eight if I reclassify Oster Black-Violet and Platinum Lavender-Black. The number goes up if I consider my samples.

Yet I have no pens inked up with any purple ink. I shall be correcting this deficiency posthaste!
