Just ordered black swan in Australian roses. Is that a midnight magenta?

With the right orange street lamps maybe!

I find it surprising there aren't more "Noon" inks for contrast.

I'm thinking there might be a reason for that. I once heard the Goulets refer to yellow ink(s) almost derisively. Apparently having a hard time giving them away, much less selling!

I got 99 problems but a BIC ain't one!

Well, most inks qualify as Noon because it’s almost always daylight at Noon everywhere. So whatever colors you see outside should qualify, right?

But it isn't always noon somewhere - sometimes it's dusky.  We have a thread for that!

[I saw what you did there. lol +1 ]

Something hilarious (to me) about the whole thing....

This whole thing happened near year end, iirc on one of their podcasts. Might've been a postscript for a clearance sale or ???...don't remember, BUT, ....

Almost immediately after, Pantone announced their CO-colors for the coming year - a dull gray and, you guessed it, a bright yellow.

Probably because many yellow inks are hard to read on the page.  That's been my experience, anyway.  Kobe Taisanji Yellow isn't too bad, because it runs a little darker and a bit more orange/brown than a true yellow, but did well in the Sailor 1911S with the music nib.

From Pen Gallery in Malaysia, 2 bottles of Diamine Kopi O Kaw and three of the new Manyo Series 2, Akebi, Konagi and Ume. I had debated whether to order 2 of the Kopi the first time and then regretted not doing so because it's really nice, a not quite as severe Macassar.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

That's like the secret dots printers add to one's printouts

Anyway, I received my "midnight magenta" in a bubble baggie. I'm impressed that it wasn't a shattered mess.

Nice variety of ink samples @Horseflesh  It takes time to figure out what you want from inks. There is saturated, shading, shimmering, sheening and outlining.

I’ve learned I like shading and outlining (or halo-ing).

Here is a link to see what halo-ing inks look like.  By the way, some of the ones you bought can be halo-ing inks, especially on paper like Tomoe River paper.

I was up to speed on shading, sheen, and shimmer... More or less... But I have not seen references yet to outlining. Thanks for the link! Oh, I see my Diamine Strawberry is there, sweet! ... Wow, that Kobe Ink Ijinkan Red 4 is my kind of thing. Gotta get some of that.

I have all my samples now, the post office got both my shipments here early... This afternoon I made a rack for them, put a sticker on the top of each vial, and put a smear of ink on so I can at least get an idea of the color.

I have some papers to try, too. This is the Goulet notebook sample pack, plus an Endless notebook, plus a CVS Caliber spiral notebook. (Which seems to be surprisingly really good, like people said.)

That rack is cool. What did you use to make it?

As for outlining inks, you can see a pattern in the colors that show it. I think I noticed the same Kobe ink you mentioned.  I’m wanting Kobe #77 Himalayan Blue.

I have a laser cutter, and a pile of 1/8" acrylic in various colors... I hoard laser materials like the regulars around here hoard ink! It's easy to make a tabbed box, there are web tools that spit out plans if you give them dimensions. I just had to modify the plans with holes for the vials.

I have similar 3D-printed ink holders.  If you have a 3D printer I'd be happy to send you the calibrations - it's taken a few iterations to get the sizes just right.

I bet it does!

Sadly, no 3d printer here yet. I'm very interested in getting one, but haven't dived in yet. My buddy who has a filament printer seems to spend more time working on the printer than actually using it, which has made me gun shy. But he's the kind of guy that overcomplicates everything, if he had a fountain pen, it would be the same way...

They are more complicated than fountain pens. ;)
